Distribution - cd Vs dvd ??

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Distribution - cd Vs dvd ??

Post by OZINOZ »

With the upcoming MS Flight Sim FX being distributed via dvd only, given the obvious increase in graphics quality and you would therefore think file sizes etc, at what point do you decide what the distribution medium will be. TS was a 2 disc release, maybe this is the reason there have only been 4 routes announced.

What would users prefer? Most newer pc's will have dvd or combo drives so either shouldnt be an issue...

Thoughts...

Cheers from a very warm (26 degrees C sunny day - pity its still winter!!) Down Under...

(no poll this time... )

Already for some years all new computers have DVD. Even most of the software (especially games) nowadays comes only on DVD. Even Vista will be on DVD.

I don't see a problem. Computers, capable of running KRS (5 years old will probably have "some" problems), almost ceartinly have DVD. If not, DVD unit costs at most 20 €

For the benefit of the two newer members in this thread, the BATS Southern Region add-on, Autumn 2005, was initially released on DVD, but such a stir was raised that Blue Arrow provided a CD version separate to the distributor's DVD version.

I think they would be smart to distribute it on DVD, but to also have a download service like many developers do nowadays, so that you have no trouble finding it in shops.
