the bigboy can be found at http://nalw.macfall.com/prod/bigboy.html
its 13.#mb and has small sound update aswell also at same place.
i edited the .eng files to fix one or 2 things i think are incorect
BigBoyPart1 "Mass ( 342.3t )"
BigBoyPart2 "Mass ( 358.3t )"
and "MaxPower ( 3125HP*4 )" in both .eng files.
posted this on http://www.train-sim.com/ and got the usal "you no nothing" type replys
but it is a grate train one that evry one should have.
the FPS for me is 18-40fps on the defualt MP route (p4 2ghz 256mb rambus, gf2 64ddr,win me) whitefish to essex

The mass figures in original Eng.file would seem correct to me.I assume they are quoted in American tons(it is American). When converted to "old" Imperial Tons(pre Metric modern Tonnes)Figure is within a ton or so of changed value above.Your loco may now be too light

i would not say the mass thay used was incorect.
but if the mass is left at 50/50 split the second set of drivers(AI loco#2) will slip there wheals b4 the 1st driver set will(player) so the AI loco will fall back to its 14.5%(16/1.1) sliping %Adheasion and the trains speed and TE will drop.
with the mass i used the drivers on both player and AI parts will slip at almost the same time the efect is you get more TE and speed for longer b4 sliping and you dont have to use the sily MaxPower seting thay used.
hear is there maths for MaxPower(per loco unit) working back:
46923kw *1000(to get watts) /746(to get watts to HP) /4 (NumWheels(4)devider)=15724.86595hp.
my maths MaxPower(per loco unit):
big boy was 6250HP DB pull/ @rail.
this HP is divided by 2 becouse it is useing 2 .eng files 6250hp/2=3125hp
next the NumWheels( 4 ) divider is in use witch divides the MaxPower by 4 so the hp neads to be timesed by 4, 3125hp *4=12500hp.
next if you wont the HP to watts to KW by timesing by *746 then /1000, 12500HP*746=9325000watts/1000=9325KW(corect MaxPower per unit)(2331.25KW true)
Remember useing eather mass in the bigboy is corect, as your loco tons still add up to 700.6t your mass on drivers is the same. also MSTS cross checks Mass,Adheasion#%,MaxPower,MaxForce with the entres inthe default.wag.
in real life i would think that the 1st set of drivers would have less mass on them than the 2nd set of drivers may be 2-10T witch is less than 1.4% of tatal mass.

I follow your reasoning, the only thing I was stating is that the original mass as shown in Eng.file if in American tons is already near enough the value in British tons that you changed it to.(350.3AmT=344BrT)Therefore if your value is interpreted as an an American value, the loco is lighter.
Nice to have a technical discourse for a change, are we in wrong forum?

Um, i thought MSTS used Metric and Imperial measurements
In which case if they have quoted American Tons for their eng files then it wil lbe wrong, of course if it's the guy who is wanting to change it that is using american tons....i much prefer tonnes...i know how many Liter buckets of water it's equivilent to

hi
i dont no wot the corect mass should be for the bigboy but i alwase thort it was about 550t (1000kg t) i no the quoted 700.6t is to much but i have seen figers quoted from 526t to 615t so i dont no.
if the corect mass was say 570t the same format of giveing the AI loco a bit more MASS than the player part of the loco would still hold true.
but if thay were so fare out on there HP ,then it would be fare to think thay got the mass incorect witch would afect TE and speed witch then would require more HP witch would make the wheal slip wich would caues more loss of TE and HP to rail------and so on -----the cascade efect:) .
i will do a serch on google and find the corect mass for the bigboys
and post corected mass------ but i no the HP and my method are corect
