more dorset coast problems

Post by david1 »

does anyone have any suggestions?

having downloaded dorset coast v1.0 (Southampton - Weymouth) which i worked fine some months ago, I have downloaded v2.0 & V3.2 and having found various problems as mention in the Dorset coast problem areas, having reduced the demand on my computer by reducing the display levels to 60% at full resolution between Waterloo & Wimbledon every thing works fine until i get to Southampton where my computer freezes, I have saved the activity just before here and restarted my computer all to no avail, i have started an activity at Milbrook Freightliner Terminal which freezes and have also tried Waterloo - Weymouth part 2 starting at Redbridge instead of running from Waterloo, which also freezes have about 1/2 mile.

all my problems ocur in the first section (V1.0 part which worked fine until until I installed the full line)

Spec -:
Processor - Pentium 4
speed - 2.4GHz
RAM - 512MB
Graphics Card - 256MB

any help would be appreciated

Hi
You really need to get more RAM.
Not possibly what you wanted to hear...but DCv3 is a very intensive route.
The other thing that can save you a lot of PC resources is turning off the route ambient sounds...as MSTS loads all wav sounds into RAM....and the wav format is not very efficient.
Cheers

David,

Can you try driving from Weymouth towards Southampton and see how far you get?

freeze ups at Southampton

I had the same problem, so got rid of all the activities, services and paths created i n ver 1, then created new ones..

i found downloading the 4 larger files and installing them and starting a fresh has got rid of all the previous problems..

I run the route with a geforce 6600 video card and 1.25gigs of ram.. but a 6600gt card and 2 gigs of ra should solve most of the problems

and then try with no sounds
It shouldn't be necessary to be quite so drastic as that. I found that if i dropped the sounds setting to medium most of the failed to load problems went away. I did also drop all graphics settings 2 notches though, including the bias between best performance and best graphics.

Your spec is almost the same as mine, except im still using a 64mb graphics card and a P4 2.2ghz processor.

Whi;e your on the subject of problems with dorset coast, I can't drive a train in it without error messages constantly appearing. They say stuff like 'Can't find 'jp1.building' and also saying parts of track are missing. I don't get it as I downloaded all the files from here:

http://www.railsim.nl/web/

Please can somebody tell me whats gone wrong, as I don't understand!

Lack of memory or too many sounds
You need more memory either RAM or Sound Card
Do a search for Memory problems in the forum and it will explain why your getting these errors

Rob - did you have all the default routes available when you ran the batch file as it copies tons of stuff from there into the route. Cant find errors are usually because the items are missing, as opposed to failed to load errors which are usually performance related. Check the location its looking for the files and see if they are there. If not check your default folders for them. It sounds like the batch file hasn't run fully
