Level crossing safety ad...

Post by jreece »

Crikey :o. Just watched Network Rail's new level crossing safety advert on TV. Hard-hitting stuff. It shows a rabbit jumping around on the tracks with bits of debris in what looks to be the aftermath of a collision at an AHBC...

Even though the rabbit apparently survives unharmed, it's pretty strong stuff. If it doesn't stop people dodging round the barriers then nothing will.....

There's some stuff about it at network rail but they don't seem to have the ad itself online.

Would probably be better off showing a train hitting a car and showing people the impact.

Who remembers that demonstration where they rammed a nuclear flask with a Peak in some bizarre PR stunt to placate the anti-nuclear lobby ?

Surely a similar demonstration could be set up with a scrap engine / car and some crash test dummies ? I agree that it needs to hard hitting (although I haven't seen the current ads).

I am sure someone can dig up footage of that test with the nuclear flask but I haven't got the time tonight.

Cheers

They have a slow-mo video of the test on show at the Sellafield visitor centre I think... Or at least they did when I last was there a few years back...

Has anyone also noticed the radio ads? I remember the British film being used as part of a Physics educational video. I still see the local chavs crossig against the red lights at Milford every day though (the footbridge is out).

The radio ad I heard was harsh, just a voice saying "this is what it sounds like when someone gets run over by a train", then the sound of a train speeding past. Then the chap says "10 stone of flesh makes no difference to 400 tons of train" then a warning to take care on level crossings.

As a member of the S&T on NR, anything to try and stop stupid people abusing level crossings is a good thing. I have not seen the TV advert yet, but have heard the radio one a couple of times now. The one I have heard says about 'you knowing the lights are flashing', 'you know the train travels at 100mph' etc with a yodalarm sound in the background. The Yodalarm sound then stops going 'two-tone' and goes single tone like when someone dies in hospital, then the sound of a train crashing into a car, then it says 'you know you will never see your family again'
And ends with the campaign phrase 'Level crossings'.. 'Dont run the risk'

Pretty good advert.

Mike.

Some footage of the Ufton Nervet tradgedy will hit home harder than a staged demonstration.
