Compatability...
Alright, I know this comes up time and time again, but seeing as TMTS is 'on hold' I think we really need to think about this more seriously.
I think just about everybody in the MSTS community would like to be able to convert their locomotives from MSTS to KJRS...
Without TMTS, we're stuck, and i'm not keen on having to wait for people to build locos again from scratch. Compatability with MSTS was a priority for TMTS.
Can you please try and make it any important issue, especially with locomotives and rolling stock, cabs and sounds, that we can convert them from MSTS to KJRS, for the benefit of the community.
We don't want a brand new sim which isn't like MSTS. We want MSTS with a few extra bits in so we can enjoy not having to re-make everything thats already been done.
Please, please, please make this a priority, not just for models built in 3D Canvas; without it, the MSTS community will be much worse off.

I'm not.
Will you really want to re-learn how to do everything again? That goes for driving, creating, and other things MSTS does.
It'll take ages to learn everything from scratch again, as will building everything again.
I just think MSTS compatability should be a more major issue with the new simulator.

I personally like a total new sim since graphics and computering power has moved on so much with the news of 3dcanvas support it maybe able to conver via a back door approach i.e not nesscary using a convert just open up the file then save as the kuju file format. secondly with the high res game engine and physic chip support I wont be supprise to see one of the first freeware locomotives being something like a class 47 or 08.
I agree with the 3DC thing, i think thats good, but it limits what can be converted to the new sim and what can't.
Theres a lot of stuff that authors have probably not got the orignal files for, or maybe an author isn't prepared to sit for hours converting all his models into the KJRS format.
I believe that a simple conversion tool, mainly for locomotives and stock, perhaps buildings if possible would be a useful thing for the new sim to have.

Re: Compatability...
Well you are not likely to get that as MSTS 2 was cancelled.trainmad wrote:We don't want a brand new sim which isn't like MSTS. We want MSTS with a few extra bits in

Don't forget this is a NEW sim.
Do you really think that MSTS was really like driving a real train then ?trainmad wrote: Will you really want to re-learn how to do everything again? That goes for driving, creating, and other things MSTS does.

When you get something new don't you expect to have to learn new things then.

why dont We All work on a Patch for MSTS lets say MSTS V2.0 it could be
non official and i think there is the Brain power(Not me) on UKTS to do it

I'm not saying I don't want a new sim, I really do want a new sim, but I don't want a new Simulator thats completely different in every way, shape or form to MSTS. I'd like to have similar controls, similar track editor, instead of having to re-learn everything all over again. It would make life easier if this were the case.
I'm glad of a new game engine and stuff, but theres a lot of models, buildings, locomotives, cars etc, that we already have available, so why can't we make use of these by having a converter - hopefully a rolling stock one - that people can use.
TMTS showed us a version of Shape Viewer that converted models into TMTS from that; why can't somethink similar be created for KJRS?
By only being able to convert models via 3DC limits what can pottentially be converted to KJRS format.

Why don't people ask the Ford motor company to put the T model ford parts in the latest model ford on the production line
All that waisted time spent on developing and producing the T model
Better still ask Boeing to see if they can get the plans to the Wright brothers Kitty hawk
Now that has some good ideas like a motor, wing warping,
I drove trains for 22 years and MSTS dosn't come close and never will to what it's realy like to drive a train
A full blown 3D simulator is the only thing that would come close
So anything new the developers can do to make this come close to real driving is great

It might be worth e-mailing the guy who created Shape Viewer as he may have an idea if it is possible and also whether there were any legal issues with converting microsoft formats to another shape.trainmad wrote:TMTS showed us a version of Shape Viewer that converted models into TMTS from that; why can't somethink similar be created for KJRS?
I'm in total agreement here. I feel the only person who should be able to convert my models is myself. I'd rather issue new, improved models specifically designed for Kujusim. Some of my stuff is 5 years old and a bit archaic. Don't think I'd be happy seeing that in the new sim!GenmaSaotome wrote: I don't much care for the scenario where somebody else converts my models.

For once David, I agree with you here!rwaceyw wrote:can agree slightly. i'd like a new sim but it would be good to have a converter for MSTS models purely to fill gaps until new ones to Kuju sim quality are madel
TBH, if you want to see a real "quantum leap" in the quality of the sim, that is going to require major changes, and persoanlly that's what I'd like to see. I'm not really bothered if I have to learn my way around a completely new route editor, as the old one was impossible to use anyway. Similarly, I'm prepared to accept a few changes in the train controls if it allows a more realisitc driving experience.
In the long term, I'd rather see new, high quality models that take advantage of the capabilities of the new sim. But in the meantime, I don't want to be stuck with the default content while I wait for new versions of my favourite locos, and a converter-even if only for 3DC models-would allow MSTS models to "hold the fort" until new models arrive.
