Brakes on some trains

Post by ka959 »

I'd like the opinion of some other users of MSTS, particularly those using the well-modelled British locomotives and rolling stock found on this site.

I'm using the DMU101SE trainset for runs on the FUDE 1.2 route at present, but seem to have continued frustration with station stops, where, just as the train stops, and the message at the bottom of the timetable frame comes up about pressing enter to load passengers etc. comes up, and I do so, suddenly, the train appears to move backwards, or, at least, the Track Monitor shows the cyan arrow, normally pointing upwards, moving from the bottom to the top of the window, signifying the train has slid backwards or something, and the loading time countdown goes off, and the next station name up the line, appears in the list, as if I'd departed.

But I haven't, and am still stopped at the station. I feel that the brakes haven't actually held securely, and the sort of seem to partially release, and this spoils any attempt to run to a timetable over the entire route, and frustrates the hell out of me no end.

So, is there anyone who can tell me how to fix this problem, which incidentally, I noticed also happening when I used the NWT route, and had an all-stops train I was driving. Stop at a station, and it immediately appears that I've left the statrion as soon as I stop. It seems common to British trains, as I don't recall any American or other country's trains so far, at least, doing this annoying thing.

Is it the brake settings or what ? I increased the maximum brake pressure in the .eng file, but it will not slow down any faster, no matter what I set it to. There must be an answer somewhere, and does anyone happen to know what it is, and that it's guaranteed to work ?

Regards...

Hi Jim - Its an annoying problem but one that is evident with some stock. I always wait until the station monitor shows as stationary (after the carriages have rolled back) before pressing enter to record the stop. I believe its to do with the coupling settings in the wag files of the stock concerned. Other more learned than me might supply a answer. I just wait for movement to cease and then hit enter. :)
