Well, what a surprise

The schools are off for easter, so what do the kids decide to do? Throw concrete block off bridges onto trains.

A TPE service going eastbound was "bricked" near Cross Gates (Leeds) this afternoon, right in the evening peak.

The 'missile' went thru the drivers window, showering him with glass, for which he was taken to hospital with possible glass fragments in his eyes.

All in the name of fun and games, not

If they catch these guys, I hope they are locked up for attempted murder!!

Well I hope the driver is OK ? Any links for an update on the story ?

A Virgin voyager got similar treatment yesterday at Bristol. Not sure where it was heading but I think it might have been the Newcastle service. It had to be taken out of service at Bristol Parkway and the passengers crammed onto the next service northbound. It is in our local paper but not on the online version of the paper.

Of course if they ever catch anyone you can bet your mortgage on them getting some smarmy social worker to explain how it is everyones' fault but their clients

and that their client is the real victim rather than the driver of the train.

Can anyone explain why teenagers go out and do this?

Speaking as a representative of teenagers, I honestly have no idea why they want to commit acts of violence and vandalise things. Why on earth do people do these things?

teens seem to blame it on bordom, which i can understand in a way, but how one can stand on a bridge and hurl something down to a moving train, defys my belife.

Because they want to be "cool". They think that vandalism is "rebellious" and makes them look "well 'ard". We have a lot of trouble with them at my local railway-they're often graffiting our buildings and occasionally place bricks on the line as well-fortunately our drivers have always been able to stop in time. At the very least these yobs deserve to be forced to pay compensation and undertake community service. What do the police do? Give them a slap on the wrist and send them home. Typical.

The holidays were three days old when the pacer I was in had a stone thrown at the window near Ashton Under Lyne last week. Its accepted as a 'normal' incident, but i don't think such behaviour should be tollerated.

A narrow miss and embedded in the back wall job?

It's excitement isn't it. 100mph train, brick flying downwards, SMASH! Unfortunately it doesn't occur to them - or worse, they don't care - that there's a driver sitting behind that (in the case of that Voyager, impressively toughened) glass, who could die as a result. I'm sure the more consciencous wouldn't be able to live with themselves when faced with the family. If they can't afford to go to theme parks or whatever, why not join a club?

MuzTrems point is very true this yobbish culture of "chavs" and rudeboys/gangsters" are inflamed by the American rap scene which thinks that doing something bad gets them "respect" and "street cred". Many criminal offences can be pulled out of these nasty acts on the rail industry and others alike. It is time the police stopped sitting around arresting people for drinking and find where the real problems are.

Happened again this afternoon, same location, but MY TRAIN

My nice new 185

We were speeding along towards Hull, passing east of Neville Hill depot then all of a sudden - bricked, what tossers!!

Heres a pic i took on the return trip back to Leeds....

Strange thing tho, we tried to stop a train going west, just after we had ground to a halt, however we weren't quick enough to give em a stop signal with a red flag.

He got bricked just after he passed by us

I hate these youths......

I am totally lost for words - are you OK mate ?

I know how bad it is when I get a major stone chip on the windscreen ( I drive about 20,000 - 25,000 mile a year on business). Those are freak accidents but for someone to intentionally throw something at you is mind blowing.

Are they deliberately targeting the new trains? Or is it any train passing their 'patch'?
