Website Update

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Maybe so Dave, but take your credit where it's due. And given the poly budget and the differences in game engine, I don't think anyone's work in MSTS should be compared directly with what appears to be possible in KRS and TMTS.

I like the phrase "for now"! :D

Well I'd be lying if I promised that I would never try and improve my old model. It has been a long time, and I suspect that I could do better a second time round. I cracked the Voyager this time, and I think the HST is a bit of an easier shape than that.

But also credit where credit is due, I had to look very closely to check that these screen shots were not photos. That is possibly the best train sim model I ever saw ! Obviously the real test is seeing it in the game looking the same, but from those shots, v impressed !

Fantastic model. Great news for us modellers that we'll be able to get polly happy as well when it comes our turn to make them for the Kuju simulator. I zoomed in on the pictures and its not all poly's either, some of it is a clever and skillful blend of texturing that gives some distinctly 3D effects. Compliments to all the artist who contributed to this model.

Wonder what the new Livery's like then

I agree with Tim about the original BR colours. By the time BR was coming to an end they were heavily weathered too. There wasn't much "shiney" at Paddington in those days

Maybe dynamic weathering will feature - I have a few driving games in which the cars get dirtier the more you use them, with the option to send them to the car wash.

If this was at all possible in the sim it would be most welcome. If not, then I think the fact that FGW are partners in this means that the trains will be sparkling clean and all the activities will feature FGW trains arriving on time!

A working carriage wash! Now there's a graphics challenge

Completely lost me on the second part here. That's not what my friends who use their services say. To be on time the service has to actually run!!!

I get what he's saying, if FGW is playing a part in the creation of the game, they don't want to give themselves a bad image.

You guys got to admit though, that livery does look nice. It's way better than the dirt and grime of the BR livery or anythig BR could've done. I'd rather see HSTs nice and shiny than a dirty and grimy with a horrible livery underneath.

PURPLE AND PINK !!!!!!!  As we would say in London "You're 'avin a laugh, ain't cha?"

Really nice on "My Little Pony", and as for the latest livery above......well I suppose the graphitti will be difficult to spot if they're putting it on first

Actually I think BR's Blue and Grey and the reversed arrow logo were pretty good as "corporate identities" go.

The weathering is about our wonderful climate rather than about the ownership of the stock, and as for FGW worrying about their image.......

As I understand it they've got the worst timekeeping record of any of the current operators. How their trains look in Train Sims won't help them one jot!

I'm glad I'm not the only that has a issue with the way the HST has been 'pimped' up lol :)

I don't know what it is about the good old BR livery but personally, I feel it just worked for the HST for some reason! I was born when the livery was making the transition to intercity corporate livery, but to be honest its always looked so much better in grey/blue. And I'm sorry to sound like some sort of ungrateful swine but what is it with those light clusters! heh, some sort of wierd insect like thing going on there. Im sorry, i just think they look a bit silly - and so obviously stuck on :-P

But realistically, aside from my bitching about FGW's jolly jaunt into whatever modernistic image they're trying to grasp hold of - they have to move on with the times and im sure there are loads of fans of the shiney new livery. And seen as FGW want the image of their company to be crisp and un-cluttered, I would think it only fair to make the train look gleaming, even if in real life given a few months, it won't be true to form!

Anyways, its a totally awesome model and I'm so happy the 43 has been rendered with such incredible acuracy and attention to detail! Go kuju! :D

I wanted to have another look at the model but the web site seems to be down ?

The model itself is the important thing. There's shed loads of talent amongst the communities freeware modellers and skinners so hopefully "My little Pony" can soon be replaced with a proper livery   The detail in the model deserved further viewing in view of that. Some passenger views would be good too.

Nice HST !!!! If the in-game shots are as nice as these renders we're in for a visual treat. And if the physics and operations are as good as the visuals...!
