Many of us drive trains from different eras over the same routes in MSTS.
Whilst it is tolerable if there is a siding, crossing or branch missing here or there, a station missing (as long as our train is not booked to stop there) or even if the route has a newer or older type of signalling.... drastically different speed limits from different eras can spoil activities.
I would like to suggest that in the new sims that there should be an option to change route and location speed limits, in the activity editor, rather than just have them hardwired into the route.
As an example I had thought about making a Coronation Scot activity for Thames Mersey for MSTS.... but with so much of the route cleared for 100 mph it would be too easy to keep time (in LMS days there were many more speed restrictions, many more severe speed restrictions and relatively few places where 80mph could be exceeded in regular service).
Anyone wanting to run a Virgin Voyager at today's speeds suffers the reverse problem!
Changing era - Changing speed limits
The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Isn't 80 mph a bit optomistic
