A new project for a team

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

A new project for a team

Post by swt455 »

Hi guys,

Im looking at creating a team of people who are willing to work as a team withmyself and a few other members to create a route...

I require
2-9 Routebuilders- INCLUDING track layers, scenery, etc.)
1-4 Rolling Stock Creators
1-2 BETA testers (future)

Before selecting the route i need the team...

If you'd like to join me, please PM me...

we will have a discussion as to the route at a later date.

Thanks

EVERY member of the team will be treated fairly, and seen to well and will be admired for their work.

I do know how too route build, but when it comes too building custom buildings I'm clueless

So basicaly, I can route build, activity build and BETA test

And like Jon siad, more detail is required before I decide :-?

a standard guage route

either short SWT branch line or a WAGN branch out of Liverpool Street in a more modern era.

Route needs building first so that would be great

Any other questions?

What sort of timescale are you looking at.

Also donationware/payware/freeware?

And can I ask what your role in this effort would be ?

As recently as 2nd February you were having major issues with MSTS crashing http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?p=610040 and when directed to run Route Riter and Conbuilder you replied
swt455 wrote:i dont know what all those softwares are!! I cant find them anywhere...
and when advised it was a stock issue or an environment issue by a very experienced forum member you replied

From reviewing your posts (via your profile) you have issues running MSTS but you expect to pull a team together to produce an undetermined route.

I would expect most people capable of producing routes to be either busy doing that or recuperating from the bruising experiences of doing so. Sorry to be so blunt but I think you are "off with the fairies" on this one.

Learn to walk before you try to run - I can (after a good deal of effort) produce activities. I played with the route editor and bought the Michael Vone book. I learnt from experience that I was not cut out for route building.

My advice - sort out your MSTS installation and back it up. Then get Rich Garbers activity writing guide from Abacus and try writing a few activities. Then and only then think about building a route.

Kindest regards

Unless you have some talents to assist in the development of a route, such as unique info. about said route, or modelling skills, then I'm afraid that your request will probably fall on deaf ears.

Also, you'll find that most Route Builders will be only interested in non-fictional projects.

As John has already alluded to, you need to gain some first hand experience yourself before anyone will take you seriously.

Sorry to disappoint, and for the frank post.
Kind Regards,
Terry

My experience leads me to believe that the best freeware routes are created by dedicated individuals (Bala Hub, Coals to Newcastle, MEUK, Burton-Derby) for example, or small teams of like minded people (Skipton, Paddington - Penzance).

They all have a very clear sense of what they want to do, and then put in the hard yards to attain it. They don't have to worry about managing team dynamics too much, which makes it all the more likely that they will succeed.

Let's see some concrete plans and directions, then I'm sure you'll get a positive response. I'll donate an item of rolling stock to the cause once you get to beta testing!

Cheers

Mike

Dont mean to cause any trouble here, but I have never Built a Route in my life for MSTS, but have already picked up where Matt left of on the NNR route, have asembled a small team, and have decided on making the route Donationware, find out info here, http://nnr.parkin-rail.org.uk/phpbb2/index.php
you may want to check the "route" thread under Progression to see how im getting on,

with a bit of determination and hope even a Novice can get somewhere, it just requires a bit of Paitence and learning as you go along and making sure you correct your mistakes on the way.

Look mate, you don't seem to listen do you. Having seen some of your work which you are supposedly 'very skilled' in, I have to say that it is awful, sorry to be blunt but it is. Please please take the advice given by members here rather than rushing into something which clearly you know little about. You should start small and build up rather than go in for something that is clearly never going to happen, and if it does, be of a poor quality. Rather than request a team of people whos skills could easily be used somewhere else, why not build a route of your own first. To me, it sounds like your trying to make a new full blown product here, what with route builders - why you need up to 9 builders I don't know - and rolling stock creators. You will probably find that many of the very skilled people are already involved in payware projects. Time and time again this type of thing arises, and it just dies out within a week or two. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you will produce an outstanding product that will whip the behinds of all other products, in which case I will stand corrected, but as it stands, and looking at what you have shown me already, I can probably safely say that that 'dream' will not be happening anytime in the near future.

I'm all up for 'newbies' getting into TS and starting to produce routes/rolling stock, because UKTS certainly needs it! But don't start big, because you won't get anywhere, full stop.

Regards

Rich

---edit---

Also, make the details public in this thread rather than keeping it confined to PM/MSN, you will get more interest that way.
