Something American

Post by august1929 »

Whilst clearing out my grandfather's loft, I came across a shoebox full of old railway photographs. Some were in quite a poor state, but others are pretty fresh. Thought they might be of interest.

The back of the first is annotated "#3 Grandver (?) 1904" so, as my grandfather wasn't born until 1901, I think the photos must have been taken by my great grandfather, who died in 1925.

Not sure of the location but it looks like the railroad is in North Atlanta (if I am reading that lettering right. My eyesight isn't that good). Looks like it is pretty busy, with construction still going on (those stacks of sleepers).

One more showing a bunch of tents - were these for the guys building the line, or was that where the locals lived? Must have been rough in the winter.

A couple more from the depths of the box. I think these were taken later, quality is a bit better (#3 again, and I now see that it was "Grandview" that was written on the back of that first shot).

Guess my grandfather was pretty fond of this railway.

Hi
Yes good effort...especially like 1 and 3 ....they look the most realistic to me.
Is this the St. Louis & North Arkansas route by (spelling) Andrea something ?
Cheers
Jon

Excellent screenshots as ever Rod
Thank you very much for that - well worth buying, and the upcoming NO looks to be a real beezer too.
