Indeed the former are cute and the latter are great.....even if they did only have several versions of the same two basic designs

US Kettles are just like US cars of the 50's and 60's. Large, bits hanging off them everywhere, hardly beauties....but you just can't ignore them.....in fact you just have to love them for what they are.

We all know the Castle Class beat the pants off every UK design for power and efficiency, without winning the kudos of Mallard or the Flying Scotsman but you've still got to love all the other designs haven't you? Open your imaginations and check out some of the Classic US kettles. I've spent hours trying to convince them that we're more open minded about such things this side of the pond! Don't join the "rednecks".....please>

Geoff

BTW the author of that kettle also produced some of the best early US diesels too, with good detail and weathering. He had a great web site but I think there is just a web link with links to download the models now....if it's still up. Grab them if you get a chance

Well whilst they're rubbing salt into your wounds   check out these models.

http://www.startrekgaming.com/moon_xl/msts/zips/

Obviously they're US loco's but old as they are they're excellent models.

If you like them check out Justin Cornell in a search at TrainSim.com

The originals were never posted there but there are loads of reskins of these models by others.

No worries, we'll think you're a man when you're old enough to be in the class where they teach you how to spell "knowledge" and that the abbreviation for "et cetera" is "etc".......

C'mon Scotsman, you can do it old girl! Do it for your country and, whatever you do, don't let the big piece of scrap metal beat you!!! leave it standing in your dust as you go miles ahead of it and beat it by about half an hour! :P :P :P
