Making Tracks Freeware Class 33s

Post by Damo »

I have just been playing with the MT freeware Class 33s but when I try and brake, not even Supression/Continuous Service Brake slows me down very well. What could be causing this?

Check the brake fluid. Could be th brake shoes, Kwik fit might be able to do a deal.

not such a daft answer, but have you checked you're not running air braked stock with vacuum brakes or vice versa? any mixing causes a nightmare (esp on the lovely highland route!)

I found that running on Swanage, had to apply, then release and re-apply on occasion to get the train to slow.
Are you driving with a consist or light engine? If a consist, is it the same type of braking system? ie: vacuum or air.
Have you tried using the loco independent brake? (square brackets)
How about trying over at MakingTracks? They are very friendly and helpful over there.

Regards

Thanks guys! My next question, is it possible to change a loco from Air Brakes to Vaccum Brakes? I have made the loco have it's own folder, reanmed the files etc so any changes won't interfere with any current consists.

Oh b****r!! I've just spent ages creating an activity with two 26's and Mk1 stock. i thought they were hard to slow down and now I know why. Right. Back to the drawing board.

Yes you can,
change this bit,

BrakeEquipmentType( "Triple_valve, Auxilary_reservoir, Emergency_brake_reservoir" )

BrakeSystemType( "Air_single_pipe" )
MaxBrakeForce( 35kN )

To this:

BrakeEquipmentType( "Triple_valve, Auxilary_reservoir, Emergency_brake_reservoir" )

BrakeSystemType( "Vacuum_single_pipe" )
MaxBrakeForce( 49kN )

Mike,
The blue/grey Mk1s are available for either air or vacuum.

I think conbuilder (available from the quickpics on the front page of uktrainsim) allows you to change the .eng files pretty easily, esp the most recent version. Takes a little bit of learning but well worth the effort. Also allows you to get around those annoying problems when the engine has chain couplers and your stock has automatics....

Yeah, I am constantly finding out things ConBuilder can do that I didn't know about! Changing the coupler type takes just 2/3 clicks with ConBuilder - superb utility!

Thanks for your help Guys.

Conbuilder will allow you to change the Power or Coupling types only. The latest Route-Riter will however allow you to change Brake Types as well and allow you to add Front couplings as well as rear couplings to any .eng/wag.

Moreover RR will edit multiple files at once rather than having to select one file at a time for modifying.
