BR Green as always GCR dont like other liveries other than BR Green I remember when they had the B1 in Lner libery and it was quickly repainted and as GCR are trying to recreate steam in the 50's and 60's BR livery is appropriate but I like SR green so lets wait and see what livery it is put in to and rwaceyw is all you go on about visitors they cost money up to £1000 to bring one in by road inless you prepared to pay for it the railway dose not have all the money in the world we only had 3 guest locos this year we had the 8F the Standard 5 and the GWR tank loco from the SVR and we have to sell enough tickets to cover the cost of bringing the loco in by road and taking it away and the hire charge if there is one and I like the home fleet where else in the UK will you find an 04

I was referring to the diesel fleet....
I'm just saying GCR galas are getting very 'samey' with all the same locos and timetables, time they reinvented themselves methinks?
David
GCR, nearly every single weekend for the last 5 years.....every who wants to have done it has done so now....I like the home fleet where else in the UK will you find an 04

Been here long enough to know better...
David does have a point though, you do churn out the same locos on the same turns year after year..... Only 3 guest locos? That's really bad... hopefully D123 will be out at the gala to make some noise and annoy the grumps.
GWR Tank loco from the SVR?
Thought 4141 was from Llangollen and a long term resident....
We'll probably end up loaning you lot 80098 or something after this

The problemb is getting the locos you ask a railway if you can hire one and the need it when you want it we do try to have differnt locos out each week but as you will understand we need the drivers for diesels only some drivers can drive some locos so we only run the locos they are passed out to drive also some locos and out of use and cost money to repair and the customers dont complain I went to the SVR 3 times this year and was the same locos running on the 3 times so other railways run same locos on normal weekends.
And if it's a gala it's not about what locos you have it's what you have at the gala like long freight trains mail drops trains passing at high speeds. And as for the WW2 weekend it's always packed out guest loco or no guest loco
And as for churn out the same locos on the same turns year after year
Did not BR do that is the 60's
And our locos are not just any locos like the 04 the only one in the uk and nearly 100 years old and an origional GC locos thats why we run it a lot

Actually, yes it is. People are attracted by various locos. If you hired in a Fairburn (which you never will, LHR are right to keep them) there would be more people visit your galas. Simple as.johncas wrote: And if it's a gala it's not about what locos you have.
Most of the people visiting GCR WW2 weekends are Joe Public. It doesn't really bother them if you loco is in BR livery when the time period the gala is set is 1940, so it won't bother them if there is no visiting loco.johncas wrote: And as for the WW2 weekend it's always packed out guest loco or no guest loco.
And your trains don't pass at high speed. They pass at 25mph, which is line speed for any Preserved Railway. You can't run up to 40mph yet.

the track is to mainline standard and most of the people at the WW2 weekend last year wore railway fans and professional railway photogtraphers who came to photograph the event and we had more we had more railway fans \ enthusiats for out night mail drop this month than ever is was packed out and yes using one of out own locos they did not mind what loco it was it was the sight of seenig a fast night mail drop with sparks coming out of the loco chinmey a sight you wont see on any other railway.
And as for a (LMS) Fairburn Tank 2-6-4T we did try to hire one in and might do in a the future I cant see in to the future so I dont know whay gets locos are coming next year but as for the winter gala we have already know quite a few railway enthusiasts are coming so lets wait untill after the winter gala where there are no guest locos and wee how we do and as for the coments we get from rail enthusiasts on the customer commet forms they say they enjoyed it even with no guest locos so we will go by what the enthusiasts say
And like has been said if you want to see a guest loco please donate £1000 to cover cost of hireing it in and we will hire it

Nene Valley Railway non-existant then?johncas wrote:fast night mail drop with sparks coming out of the loco chinmey a sight you wont see on any other railway.
LHR wouldn't give GCR the time of day if they asked to hire in a Fairburn. LHR are right in keeping the Fairburns there.johncas wrote: And as for a (LMS) Fairburn Tank 2-6-4T we did try to hire one in and might do in a the future.
I thought the cost of a GCR day ticket would be about £1000 anyway.johncas wrote: And like has been said if you want to see a guest loco please donate £1000 to cover cost of hireing it in and we will hire it

GCR has no license to go over 25mph when carrying passengers, nor has any other preserved line.
I'm sure the HMRI will love to hear what you've happily told us though.
Any chance of posting the truth, rather than acting like the rest of the GCR flock and posting rumours, half-truths and untrue stories?

Get real. Even steam galas have only at the most 50% enthusiasts, a WW2 weekend has around 85% 'joe public'most of the people at the WW2 weekend last year wore railway fans
