Deltic Ghosts

Deltic 55020 Nimbus was sighted by 2 people entering Hadley Wood South Tunnel in September 1980. The only thing is Nimbus was cut-up in February 1980 (yes that is right). There was no reports of a train running through Hadley Wood station let alone a Deltic working. Could it be that there is still a Deltic working on the ECML?

Funny you should say that, when I left home to joing the navy in 80 it was when the deltics were disapperaing, My parents lived 2 miles from the ECML between essendine and tallington.
Was home for a couple of weekends and laid in bed and was certain I could hear the sound of a deltic late at night tracking north on the ECML!
We used to hear them on the night services as they went north since they were louder and could hear for a good 5 mins or so
spooky huh!

Hm, funny that there is a Ghost Train (indirectly) connected to one of the Brahn Seers Prophecies, would need to go and dig around for it (which i don't have time for right now) but it's something liek an old man walking home one night (ok probably drunk) claimed to have seen a "mechanical horse beltching fire and steam" (something like that) then when the railways were built up there the line was built exactly where he saw it.

I saw something interesting once. I was with a friend who is also very interested in trains and to this day we swear we saw a Load Haul black and orange liveried class 58. However my records show mainline had all the 58's. To this day i am still puzzled by this, we were very close to the line aswell and its hard to mistake a 58 ! Any info ?? Sorry its not related to the deltics but similar story

I've got of book of railway ghosts. I'll get it out later and see what spooky stories I can find in it. I know about the deltics at Hadley wood.
The correct physic explanation would be some sort of time-slip. Scientists have postulated that these phenomena would be caused by effects related to the quantum universe (or many universes theroy). In other words some sort of localised disruption to the area/individuals STU mapping within their universe.
It's like the spoon bending thing. Spoons will bend if you *believe* it will happen because there is a shift to a new universe. In other words everything is possible and there is no time nor limits. Our universe being the collection 'thoughts' of people, animals, plants and other matter.
Hey, for a MSTS forum this is getting a bit deep....

have you being drinking again? cos there is no way anyone associated with MSTS (especially those of us who spend our lives glued to the screen building things) could come up with something like that

eddief, that is one of the theories. What rob is basically saying is when you do something, it sometimes causes an echo through spacetime and different spacial dimensions.
Spacial dimensions - scientists have proven that spacetime is infinately thin. For arguments sake lets say its a piece of paper, now imagine that piece of paper was inside a book with different spacial dimensions (pieces of paper, pages) stacked above it and below it.
In these different spacial dimensions, the laws of physics and time may be completely different. If your a fan of star trek, there is sub-space; this is a spacial dimesion below our spacetime.
Using the theory that spacetime is as thin as a piece of paper, you can easily explain blackholes, wormholes, and the effect gravity has on spacetime.
Some of you may not understand any of this but quantum mechanics and advanced theoretical physics isn't childs play. This is one way to explain ghosts and ghost trains, etc.

No I haven't been drinking, this is standard quantum theory. It's bloody difficult to prove though, but you can read the scientific papers if you like!
Anyhow, I've found the book and there are loads of tales in it:
During the winter of 1974-5 workmen employed on adapting the GN and City tube tunnels for main line working often saw a man dressed in blue overalls walking toward them with a look on his face of indescribable horror; he then vanished into the tunnel wall. It was believed that it was the ghost of a maintenance worker who was killed on that stretch of line.
After the Moorgate disaster of Feb 1975 it was reported that the apparition caused the lapse in the drivers concentration.
Six German prisoners-of-war were killed when a light engine hit their truck at Connington crossing at the ECML. Also Col A H Mellows and his dog were killed on 16 Oct 1948 on the crossing in the same place. Since then more than twelve signalmen have given accounts of a large black car drawing up at the crossing then later vanishing. In broad daylight one man was able to define the mascot on the radiator - on checking records it was discovered that the Colonels car had the very same mascot.
Blea moor tunnel on the S&C has a evil reputation. The late Derek Cross had been through the tunnel on the footplate of an A3 Pacific and a Class 40 and was very pleased to see the other end. Mr Kewish and his wife were on a rail tour through Blea Moor. They were appalled by the sickly, overpowering, cloying, sweet smell that pervaded the carriage. Mrs Kewish vowed she would never travel through the tunnel again! There would appear to be some untold facts about the tunnel....
There is 100 in the book altogether.

There was one story I remember of a woman who dreamed of a diesel train in a crash. She was so appauled by the crash, she phoned up br and told them the number of the diesel in the crash and the details, br immediately changed the train number not to tempt fate.
A few years later there was a diesel involved in an accident, the exact same accident that the woman dreamed and the number on the loco was the number that br had changed to after the woman phoned them.
