MSTS Program Problems -- Can't start

Post by ImCanadian »

:( :( I need your help with this problem to solve. I can't start or upload the program of Micorosft Train Simulator on my computer after my son had to switch the video setup back to onboard instead of using a graphic card in the motherboard. The reason for switch the video is that my computer won't start with a dead graphic card in the computer and he said for now to switch the video setup to onboard so my wife as a prodject editor can use the computer to do the editing on books in Microsoft Word or both of us to check our e-mails or using the website. Then I thought let's give a try to upload the program of Microsoft Train Simulator but to my surprise that the program of MsTS close right after I clicked the icon of Train Simulator to upload. So do I have to re-install the program or is there another way round to start the Train Simulator on the computer if you know how?? The problem is that the graphic card is dead and this morning we tried to start up the computer and all I got is the black screen on the monitor and you can hear the startup procedure is running in the CPU box. So here I am now stuck with can't simulate the route on Train Simulator. I really don't want to re-install the program of MsTS and my son think that I have to. I told him that would be a better idea to post my message first here to see if anyone can help to solve the problem without have to reinstall the program. Any help would be appreciated!!

Thank you

There's a program in the Train Simulator folder called mprofile.exe Try running that and then MSTS and see if that helps. MSTS will probably be still set up to run on your old graphics card and needs to redetect your onboard graphics. Could be your onboard might not be powerful enough to run MSTS but it's worth a try.

Hi John !

When I replied to your e-mail I did not know that the dead graphics card was still on your motherboard and was not sure how you intended to switch over to the on-board one !

First of all you need to go into the BIOS to tell it to use the on-board graphics card rather than the dead PCI or AGP one ! Is that what your son did ?

If that does not help then try taking the dead card out of it's slot.

I think I already suggested that you use the Start / Programs / Microsoft Games / Trains Simulator / Troubleshooter and let it Change Video Driver which also activates the mprofile.exe !

Ok now my onboard video is SiS 630E (Embedded) on the motherboard of EliteComputer Graphic Systems P6STMT with SiS® 630ET Chipset on the motherboard. I have Pentium 3 Intel Tualatin 800MHZ processor to run the computer with 2 x PC 133 512MB memory rams in it. Now before go on with my message I ran the program of Microsoft Train Simulator with onboard video and it works but not great. Then my son put the graphic card, PowerColor Radeon 9250 with 128MB memory PCI installed into the motherboard and improve the program of Microsoft Train Simulator a little better than with onboard. Hope that will help with you about this information.

Thank you

John
