Ideas and Suggestions for the Attention of Kuju

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Accurate terrain (moveable terrain polygon points) so we can build small ditches and embankments. More accurate nearby tracks and less accurate far away.

Trains should swing and joggle in their way. Especially when running over turnout sections. Maybe there could be speed depended adjustable parameters for bogie/wheel suspension physics.

Trains with a tilting system should tilt smoothly to curves (these Pendolino-things do tilt sometimes on stationary too :D ). Tilting amount should be calculated depending on speed and curve (for example 1500M curve radius at 200 km/h would need a tilt to 8 degrees, which is maximum for Pendolino).

Mmm,
Maybe I was a little over the top
Trouble is though, that if you are trying to use one of the major Linux distributions, there is almost never a problem, as long as you don't use non-standard hardware.
Sorry to hear about the modem problems, I can only comiserate :D

Also, I admit that it irritated me to hear an instant writeoff of the chances of Linux; Half of the problem with getting more games and software onto Linux is the problem that devs etc. feel that there is no interest- Simply not true.

 Slightly off topic I know, but if you want a look at the sim interest in Linux have a look at http://www.flightgear.org for a great GPL flight sim written for Linux/ Windows

Final point on the Linux/ Mac front, if the game engine is actually written from the start to be properly compatible, then there will be no problems whatsoever; It's just when people try to convert a proggie that has been written soley for Windows that things don't go to plan :P

Here's another one.

The routes each specify when it is sunset and sunrise for each season.

Ideas??

Post by monty40 »

I would like to see comparisons with flight simulator (if possible), i.e. Ai traffic in all play modes not just in activities, would be good to have multiplayer too, people could make up their own consists etc and wait for paths, that would be fun. Would like to see sound improved, like when shutting off power on some diesels the sound has to go through various wav files before it reaches idling sound, not very realisitic. The possibility to have pairs of engines working in multiple. Also some better camera views than MSTS, lineside views should last longer, seeing the train coming in the far distance and seeing it dissapear in the far distance.
Well, that's just a few ideas, hope someone from Kuju takes note :)

I have question which appears very simple and hardly worth asking and that is will KRS accommodate steam loco's.

Bit if you consider Trainz hasn't got realistic steam physics (to date), Trainmaster only shows diesel cabs, TMTS shows only diesels and UK links are with 'modern image' modellers and MSTS steam physics were, despite the valiant efforts of .eng file experts, far from accurrate, the question doesn't appear so unusual.

MSTS only included default steam for the UK and Europe.

TATS does show a steam lcomotive but is for the US market.

The very experienced UK 'kettle men' have also gone very quiet.

As someone who'd love to see a far more realistic steam loco simulation, I'd be pleased to receive any reassurance that UK steam will be catered for from any source, particularly KRS :)

That is usually a good sign, it means they're working on something secret (don't ask me, I don't actually know)

It happened with the TRS2006, a lot of content creators vanished for a while, then Settle/Carlisle with TRS "steam" (and diesel) appears in the new product.

Perhaps every train sim should include Settle/Carlise as a default route - it would be great for comparisons :)

Settle/Carlisle with TRS
It is only the Hawes Branch as far as i gather.

Wow, those enhancements to the physics engine sound like they'll make world of difference

Hi
Well I "kinda like the sound of" the track beginning to look like track...
But I'll take a bit more persuading yet....as I was daft enough to buy TRS2004.

Not sure if i will bother,2004 was a big disappointment.

Auran still seem to prefer gimmicks to real simulation.
