Engine sound cut out!

Post by andyw823 »

Could do with some help please? Im getting problems with the sounds with various locos on the NWE V2 CD, its mainly the Class 37 and sometimes the Class 56, when i give it some throttle all goes quiet, little bit more and the sound may return, it can happen at any time durring acceleration or braking, in cab or in 2/3 view. Could it be an install fault or something more simple as a sound setting? Im new to all this so any help would be great!

it's a problem I had - and still have. I tried downloading a new soundset, but that didn't achieve anything, in fact it made it worse as the full power became the sound of the 37 applying the power from tickover, as though I was constantly opening and shutting the power handle! Which doesn't help you solve it, but you're not alone...

Yes, you are not alone, I get it to.
I have gone back to using the first Class37 sounds, which I have no bother with.

Do you lose the sound when you pull away?? If so, I've had the same probs, when I switch to external view I hear the engine revving up but the sound return to the cab view when you are on the move.

It looks like an all round problem, as I can remember it, but I cant say I've noticed it lately.

It could be something due to the number of sounds running at one time, and MSTS only being set up to run so many at once. There's a fix for this, which I've applied, although the problems may be unrelated.

Try going to the TrainSimulator/GLOBAL fold and find the file soundcfg.dat.

Skip ( Scalability 5 - Memory Guide 30M )
SoundTimer ( 5, 30, 5 )
AudioStream ( 5, 500, 100 )
SoundSystem ( 5, 200, 20, 31457280 )
TrainMinMaxDistance ( 5, 25.0, 1000.0 )
AmbientMinMaxDistance ( 5, 20.0, 1000.0 )
Rolloff ( 5, 1.0 )

In the line:

SoundSystem ( 5, 200, 20, 31457280 )

check that you have 200. If not change it to that and see if it fixes the issue.
