Hi David,
I am no expert but try putting quotes "******" round the locations
and also you need the number 1 or 2 or 3 after the second quote for the marker category inside the last bracket ie "****" 1 ) = Stations
2 ) = Landmarks
3 ) = Track Route

I found it all to be a bit hit & miss but it worked in the end.

Good luck... Ken.

Hi Ken

Current marker file is:-

Code: Select all

SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0I0t______

Marker ( -1.567402 53.141359 "Matlock_RiversideSt" 1 )
Marker ( -1.594430 53.160465 "Darley_DaleSt" 1 )
Marker ( -1.609336 53.174178 "RowsleySouthSt" 1 )
Marker ( -1.572087 53.143758 "Track" 3 )

......
And so on...

Still not working however, any tips?

Yes, as far as i'm aware.

Quick question, but what do I call my MRK file? I've named it after the route folder ( PR1 ) but am I doing that right?

Where you have "Track" give each track point a name or number
ie "TP 001" 3 ) The number 1 2 or 3 will determine the colour & type of marker flag. You will end up with loads of track markers .Don't forget to go into RE click on View and tick marker.

It should be .mkr, and the prefix needs to be the same as that for .tdb etc.

The marker type values are 0,1,2 rather than 1,2,3 - using 3 will crash RE when the route is loaded.

Still no luck, this is now my mkr file

Code: Select all

SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0I0t______

Marker ( -1.567402 53.141359 "Matlock RiversideSt" 1 )
Marker ( -1.594430 53.160465 "Darley DaleSt" 1 )
Marker ( -1.609336 53.174178 "Rowsley SouthSt" 1 )
Marker ( -1.572087 53.143758 "Track 0001" 2 )
Marker ( -1.558644 53.138162 "Matlock BRSt" 1 )
Marker ( -1.576531 53.147953 "Underbridge" 2 )
Marker ( -1.579569 53.150751 "Underbridge" 2 )
Marker ( -1.585137 53.154770 "Track 0002 2" )
Marker ( -1.589520 53.157707 "OldRoad Bridge" 2 )
Marker ( -1.593806 53.160041 "Darley DaleLC" 1 )
Same name as tdb file ( PR1 ), still can't select 'markers' in view mode.

Should I give up?

Mine looks like this:

Marker ( -1.463729 52.526260 Nuneaton 2 )
Marker ( -1.122879 52.581313 Sth_Leicester_jnc 2 )
Marker ( -1.124360 52.631372 Leicester 2 )
Marker ( -1.196043 52.779196 Loughborough 2 )
Marker ( -1.267346 52.876611 Trent_junction_sth 2 )
Marker ( -1.145591 52.947157 Nottingham 2 )

The only difference I can see is that my location names do not have "quotes". Although the fact that no body has picked up on this yet my mean that it does not matter, but wouldn't hurt to try taking some out and trying it?

Also you have bare spaces in the location names, and my experience is that all spaces between words in this part of the line should be _underscores_

So
"Matlock RiversideSt"

should be
Matlock_RiversideSt

jon

This is only part of my mkr file. I'm quite lucky that mine works.
New XXXXXXX route under construction... ;)

You don't need to use " at all, maybe thats why it's not working.
A section of the WCML mkr below (named "WestCoast.mkr") and they do appear.

You only really need quotes if you use spaces, as MSTS seperates parameter values by spaces - so adding the quotes around will prevent this. I've used quotes, so they are not the issue.

I don't think its the formatting anyway, as RE usually crashes if this is the case. I've save my routes marker file as ASCII, RE crashes; added formatting errors, RE crashes. The only way I can stop marker files from being enabled is to change the file prefix.

One thing to check is that you are saving the marker file as .mkr and not .mkr.txt - caught me out a few times.
