E.T.A and GWR Route
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone tell me exactly what type of sound sections have been installed on the GWR Route. I am using version 2.4.1 and there was mention of Enhanced Track Audio being installed from version 2.4.
I am particulary interested in whether points sounds are installed.
Regards
Arf

No additional sounds were added in 2.4. That release did however, have all the triggers installed for different (MSTS) sounds eg, passing through a tunnel, over a bridge, etc. As has been noted, there is a commercially available product - Enhanced Track Audio from railwaves.com that provides a far more realistic sound set than the default MSTS set. The 'Points' sound is available only from that product, not the default MSTS set.

In the Routes folder is a file called ttype.dat. This file links the sound effect to the actual sound. The default ttype looks like this:
SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0t1t______
10
TrackType ( "Default" "EuropeSteamTrack0In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack0Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Supported" "EuropeSteamTrack1In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack1Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wood Supported" "EuropeSteamTrack2In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack2Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "In Tunnel" "EuropeSteamTrack3In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack3Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Steel Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack4In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack4Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Girder Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack5In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack5Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Under Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack6In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack6Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack7In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack7Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Crossing Platform" "EuropeSteamTrack8In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack8Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wooden Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack9In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack9Ex.sms" )
Each sound effect is turned on and off by markers in the track.
GWR Version 2.4 had markers added to the track for all the above sound effects plus "Points" because I have the ETA product installed. But because not everyone has ETA, 2.4 was released with a ttype.dat file that looked like:
11
TrackType ( "Default" "EuropeSteamTrack0In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack0Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Supported" "EuropeSteamTrack1In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack1Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wood Supported" "EuropeSteamTrack2In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack2Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "In Tunnel" "EuropeSteamTrack3In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack3Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Steel Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack4In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack4Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Girder Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack5In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack5Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Under Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack6In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack6Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack7In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack7Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Crossing Platform" "EuropeSteamTrack8In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack8Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wooden Bridge" "EuropeSteamTrack9In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack9Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Points" "EuropeSteamTrack10In.sms" "EuropeSteamTrack10Ex.sms" )
Note the last "Points" entry. It is linked to EuropeSteamTrack10In.sms. This is a copy of the default track sound EuropeSteamTrack0In.sms because MSTS has to do something when it encounters a Points marker in the track.
Clear as mud... right?

Hi Derick
Clear as mud - yer you've got that right!!
I am begining to wish I'd never asked the question, However I did and now it is bugging me to get it right.
I have v 2.4.1 of GWR and on looking at the ttype.dat file it is as your second illustration ie it has eleven track types and there is the points entry as you described.
I have looked in RE and notice that there are yellow markers in place on the approach and exit sides of the "point". I also noticed that in placement mode that I can select "points".
Do I add sound markers in addition to the markers already installed.
In placement mode a white cross appears. If I use this to place the sound markers will the new marker affect those already installed.
I understand that for each "point" I have to mark the entry and exit positions. Does this mean that there will be additional yellow arrows to indicate the sound markers.
Talk about being confused. Help me please, if you have the patience.
I have downloaded a tutorial on sound markers from the Alpha Two Five product support site , but this starts without any markers showing at all.
Regards
Arf

Hello Derrick.
You may be able to help me, I have installed all the current GWR2 patches
but am now getting a total freeze and a subsequnt crash
of the GWR2 game both with steam and Diesel
The error message is as follows
Failed to find SMS File europe steamtrack 101 Ex SMS
and ditto 101n
Does this mean i have to totally reinstall everything?
Your Locos and stock run perfectly on other games 6015 ran perfectly from Hither Green to Tunbridge wells west but other peoples trains freeze
and I get the same error message.
What have I done wrong hope you can help.
Many thanks
Andrew Moody

Andrew,
You have incorrectly applied the 2.4 patch, which contained the sms files that the system now cannot find. You need to:
1. Delete the current GWR (its useless)
2. Get your backup copy of GWR 2.3 and copy that into the Routes folder.
3. Apply the 2.4 patch in the standard way, which is:
a. Unzip GWR24_Patch.zip into the ROUTES folder
b. In the ROUTES folder, open GWR24_Patch
c. Find updateme.bat (the last file) and double click on it.
d. Delete GWR24_Patch after the patch has been succesfully applied.
Then everything will be ok.

ETA and GWR route
Hello Derick.
I have got as far as reinstalling GWR2 from CD and have done patches 2.11, 2.20 2.21 and 2.3.
Patch 2.4 (UKTS 11406) has these two sms files external from the main patch.
The question I have, is what do I have to do with them do they need to be inserted in patch 2.4? I think that is what I did last time so please can I have some further advice so that I dont mess up and have to start all over again.
Fraid I have never been able to sucsessfully deal with SMS files.
sorry to be a nuisance.
Best wishes
Andrew Moody.
BTW Are there any furter activities planned for GWR2?

Hello again Derick.dwjoy wrote:Andrew,
Just follow the instructions in my last post. You need not be concerned with the sms files. If you follow the instructions EXACTLY then the bat file you execute in step c will take of them.
Have now reinstalled 2.4 2.41 and T type. but am now back to square one.
I can release the brakes put loco into forward but when I open regulator/take power the picture freezes and the sound at that point just keeps reoccuring and by pressing the escape button I get the failed to find SMS file Europe steam track 101 ex.sms and its mate 101n the only way i can stop it is by restarting the computer.
The only difference now is I have both of these sms files sat on my desk top and clearly if I cannot find the correct home for them I will be saddled with after yet another lenghy reinstalation, as far as version 2.3 ( I was a bit to quick making the purchase so have to do ALL of the patches each time)
Should I have installed them into 2.4 before running update me bat?
or do they have to be put into a common sound folder?
Sorry to be a pest but I hope that one of you experts can help me solve this problem.
Thanks again.

Postscript: Have just had a look at my routes files and copied the two
SMS files into the sound folder.
everything appears to be stable again.
Do I need to keep those files for any further updates or will they be automaticly updated.
Cheers
