I have just completed the Alexandra Palace - Hertford North branch on MidEast and am just about to embark on the Cambridge branch. I would like to use DEM for this new branch but am worried about compeltly messing up the existing route. Having thought about this (while waiting for my copy of TSTools) I have come up with the following idea !
1. Back up route and rename backup
2. Extend quad tree for new branch line
3. DEM route
4. Cut and paste new tiles formed from backup route into original route (I am assuming that the terrain data is included in the world tiles !)
5. Adjust height of tiles using Route Riter.
IS THERE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ABOVE !!!!!!
I would like to know before I try it sometime this week (I'm off now for some more Xmas cheer !!)
DEM on existing routes

route extension
AFAIK step 1 to 3 can be done without a problem. I doubt, however, if step 4 and further can be made without problems. I would advise strongly to backup anything you have, and to make a recovery point on your computer (Windows 2000 or later) before you try. Although I never tried this, and it is NOT the standard procedure, it could work. Please inform us about your findings!

No, the Terrain data is held in the Tiles folder in the .t etc tiles, they also include the name of the Terrtex textures used in your route.
The World tiles just list the positions, heights etc of all objects in your routes, e.g. track sections, trees, buildings etc.

I'm not arguing (just explaining why I'm right).

For anybody interested I have been playing around with my new branch line and have been able to import DEM onto an existing route, although not in the way originally planned.
In DEMEX you can select/unselected tiles, so after working out what tiles the existing route sits on, I unselected them in DEMEX and terrafomed the areas around the route. This lead to having shear cliffs at the tile boundrys.
In order to get around this I used Route Riter to raise the existing route and then terra formed the existing tiles. After a bit of trial and error I got it just about right.
A side note on using RR - the TSUtils do not appear to work with windows ME, but are fine with Windows XP - is there ant ME download that is required ?
I can now get on with extending the Mideast route to Cambridge !!!!!

You do realise that this cant be released due to it being on someone elses route. Woudn't it make much more sense to start from scratch, allowing you to both release it and meaning that it wouldn't be connected to a (albeit brilliant) fictional route?
Good Luck,
Chris
