Christmas Prezzies

Post by NorthernSpirit »

Hi all! :D

Since I'm in such good spirit for a change (even with both sets of Grandparents staying so I don't have a bed), I thought I tell you what I've been given for Christmas in terms of Model Railways. :)
  • Bachmann Class 220 4 Car Virgin Voyager 'Grampian Voyager'. :D :D :D
  • Bachmann Class 37/4 Regional Railways 'Eisteddfod Genedlaethol'. :D
  • Hornby 4-6-2 Class A3 LNER 'Humorist'. :)
Fantastic Presents! 8-)

Hope you all got what you wanted too! :)

My girlfriend brought me a hornby Evening Star train set from M&S, which includes a 9F, 3 MK1 coaches, an oval of track, two sidings and a controller.

Am very pleased with the above, however, to avoid the cardinal sin of running a 9F with a short train (3 or 4 coaches), I am going to need a lot of space for a layout. What would be the authentic length of a 9-F hauled passenger working and how much layout space will I need.

Cheers

We tend to run them with 7 or 8 coaches on our layout in Gainsborough, and it looks right - but, in real life, between 10 and 15 wouldn't be unreasonable!

Can't claim to be an expert myself! In the real world, they wouldn't expect a signalman to allocate suitbale locos to trains... .

I was very good this year, and got a load of Hornby stuff:

Hogwarts Express Train Set ( latest version )
Orient Express Box Set ( Limited edition, very special..........costs over £ 200 ) :P
Victorian Shops
Station Terminus
Country Church
Signal Box

I am very pleased with what I got this xmas, and with £70 in my pocket, I will be buying a turntable as soon as the nearest Model Rail shop opens :D :D
