Wupper Express 8.0 - an outstanding route

Post by yerkes »

I know there's a special forum for European stuff, and also that this post would perhaps be better suited to the Routes forum, but I wanted if I may to draw this route to more people's attention (sorry if this is old hat and it's a route you all know about already :-? ). I've only spent a couple of hours on it so far, but I'm already extremely impressed. The authors have clearly put their heart and soul into developing it

It's an outstanding example of a well-created non-fictitious route - lots of mileage, ample scope for passenger and freight activities, excellent detail in scenery (incl. animated hot-air balloon and fairground rides), immersive atmosphere of this mostly urbanised area of Germany. The activities provided with the route are also excellent. And it's free...

So if you fancy a Christmas holiday in the Wuppertal, and have time to spare after playing around with LSE and Coastway Express (assuming Father Christmas is considerate enough to give them to you), head on down to http://graphics15.elchzwei.com and get this route.

The first two files are the route itself, 'Aufgabenpaket' is the set of activites and 'Rollmaterial' is the required rolling-stock. Note that a few items of freeware stock are required from other sites if you want to do all the activities, but the readme in the activities download gives you all the info you need.

Yeah, it is an exceptionally good route, I must get round to writing some activities for it.

You'll find some activities for Wupper 8 at

http://www1.webdottrainsim.com/msts80.htm

These are all passenger ones, based on the real timetables.

Have fun

Hi Michael

I tried the link for the files but after the 4 zip files were shown I can't get any further. When I click on any of the file links all I get is a blankl screen.

Any idea how to get around this.

I now have the same problem. Ah well...

Try http://kim-trains.de/html/wupper_express_8.html where you can also download the same files (with an additional 'fix' file).

Hope you have more success with this!

Yerkes,
Your alternative link works OK. The origianl link threw up a series of short zip(?) files which my PC with RAR and Winzip 8 could not open.

Has anyone managed to download the DB218-904 (as mentioned in the activity pack readme) from http://www.the-train.de yet? Half the time it says I have to wait, and the other times when I click on the download link, I download a file called INDEX.HTM which is not the loco. Any ideas?, or could some kind soul e mail it to me.

Simon,

Yes, I did manage to download it from the-train.de a couple of weeks ago. If you have to wait, is it because you're downloading something else from the site at the same time? The site has limited bandwidth so non-subscribing users are only allowed to download one thing at a time.

Not sure about the index.htm problem though...
