Freeramxp pro does exactly what it says on the tin :D I've been using it for over a year and never had any problems.I run Thames-Mersey on full settings and have never had msts hang.Frame rates do get low (4-5 in places)but i can live with that  System spec :- Dell 4600 3 Ghz pentium 4 with HT with fsb and 512mb cache,1gig DDR400 duel channel ram,120 gig 7200rpm 8mb cache IDE HD,128mb Raedon 9800 pro graphics, creative audigy2 sound card.

Blaster, can you run all the way to Liverpool from Euston without MSTS crashing? I have Free RAM XP Pro on my pc, and find it crashes when I get to Crewe from Euston with "failed to load sms file", even thougth, I still have 180MB of RAM left for MSTS to use! (using the graphs in this utility is very helpful to find this sort of information out)

RR says there are no errors with the route, so theoretically, I should be able to carry on...

Free RAM XP Pro I've had no problems with, and certainly has improved the running of my games (such as Simcity 4)

My Specifications are:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 1.7GHz
512MB RAM
NVidia GeForce FX5200 Graphics card

I have done it without crashing but frame rates do drop to zero in places and seems an age before you start moving again (dreading the send don't send  )But like everyone says save regulary and restart every now and again and it should be fine. Also make sure nowts running in the background this helps a little.
Still a great route though

Not wishing to worry anyone, but before using RAM Optimizers, I would suggest the following article from last weeks Langa-List Windows weekly newsletter is pertinent:-

9) "Memory Optimizers" Redux
Fred, I know it is unusual to ask for your comments about another columnist's opinion, but Mark Russinovich says all Memory Optimizers are junk: http://www.winnetmag.com/Windows/Articl ... g/2/2.html

Your last opinion I found
( http://www.informationweek.com/story/sh ... D=17200583 ) said perhaps there are some small benefits.

Have you changed your opinion in the last 4 years? ---Alan M. Kaplan

In a word, no. <g> Back then, I referred to "memory optimizers" "RAM defraggers" and the like as mostly scams and near-scams; I still feel that way.

Then, I could envision a very limited, potential benefit in one highly-specific circumstance for the dominant OS of the day--- Win98--- but that was about it. And even there, there were drawbacks to offset even that highly limited *possible* benefit.

For newer OSes, like XP, all I can see are downsides from running memory optimizers.

Today, I don't use any such tools on my PCs (including my Win98 boxes), and can't imagine a reason to start doing so.

The above article has all the gory details if you want to know the hows and whys of memory optimizers, including the one highly-specific case where they *might* provide a *minor* benefit to Win98 users. But in general: Don't bother with memory optimizer tools, especially if you run XP or Win2K.

Thanks Mike.

Serious food for thought that I will consider in more depth in work tomorrow. I can remeber running memory optimisers under DOS 6.2 (QEMM) but under Windows 2000 I prefer to let it do the dirty work.
Kindest regards

A program that I found that helps clear alot of the junk off my PC is CCleaner, when I first ran it, It cleared 1GB ( :o ) of internet files, temporary files, etc. Everything now runs alot fater on my PC.

It also has a simple registry cleaner built into it as well, clearing any invalid file extensions, etc. I fully reccomend it: http://www.ccleaner.com/

The best memory optimiser is already installed on your PC.

Click on Start,Turn off Computer and choose Restart.

MMMM

Well im still using Ram Optimizer with XP and its still running in the background do its job with XP.
As for cleaning up internet files, temporary files and so on i use Mcafee shredder then restart ,which comes witn Mcafee internet security 04.Mcafee file shredder is far better than windows recycle bin. windows leaves bits all ofter your hard drive,Mcafee shredder does what it says shreddes into million of bits with no trace on your hard drive.
As for free ware i find there is a lots of spyware hidden in it but im not saying ccleaner has any in it?
