MEMORY AND THAMES MERSEY ON DISK

Post by 45002 »

Hi
In matty read me on the front page of ukts on thames mersey disk
One of the points he rasied was on memory on your pc.
If you go to http://www.acelogix.com and on that site there are some free tools to down loaded and buy
One i used called RAM optimizer works to free memory up on you pc and it has worked for me to speed up and make msts run more stable
Try it you never know
Every little bit helps

According to their write up it is useless for XP. I see you are running XP, so did you find it made a lot of difference?

Hi Martin,

As it is likely that you and i have both got different amounts of RAM in our systems, please can you tell me what percentage you set the two sliders to in the automatic optimization?

Many Thanks
Graham

Unlikley to however its possible it could corrupt data thats stored in memory and not been written back to the hard drive when it does the optimisation.

It does not delete any think from your hard drive
nor does it currupt anythink
It just sits in the back ground freeing up your memory
If your worried about use it or any down loaded use System Restore on xp
Create a restore point and then download Ram Optimizer and away you go.

Be careful!
RAM optmizers can be risky. It *could* corrupt things that you are running. The best thing to do is run it after a reboot (before runing any other programs). The reboot again.

I can provide a simple guide of how to clean your system and get it to run a little better if people are interested?

There is also a freeware utility called Freeram that I picked up off an XP utilities disk.
It does nothing automatically, but when told to will dump all the extraneous . that windows has always stored in memory, leaving you with that just booted feeling, but better as it also dumps various DLLs that are only required during system boot.
One useful feature is the system tray icon that changes colour from green through yellow to red - red meaning run NOW or the pc will sieze through lack of resources!

I think these programs might help somewhat with older versions of Windows, which had poor memory management.

But Windows XP has these tools built in. You can right-click My Computer or use Task Manager to access various prioritizing tools etc.

Plus , I suspect they may play around with the Registry settings which may not be a good thing. Most experts do not recommend them for XP, at least.

And, it's always a good idea to restart before playing MSTS to clear up any memory traps. :)
