Quality control of uploads ?

Post by fiveft3 »

If uploads get "tried out" before being released, are all associated files also tested?

I ask because the new "Large & the Small" for Bala requires Festiniog N/G wagons, and the download "nfrgoods.zip" does not contain all the necessary files, so that a message for Bill comes up.

Most frustrating :(

The file in question is ngempwdslt.wag for the Frwoodslate.

Cannot comment on the activity as I don't have a copy of the Bala route.

The missing file mentioned can be downloaded from this site:-

File id is 6626

"Truescale patch for FR wooden slate wagons"

We do limited testing of the files that are approved, make sure it isn't a zero byte file, make sure the file zip-tests ok or that the exe runs, make sure it has a readme that lists the stock required, all that kinda stuff. We just don't have the time to actually install and run everything to make sure everything works fully and even if we did - the chances are even though it works on one system it might not on another with the vast number of add-ons there are out there that might conflict.

A polite email back to the author asking them to update the file with the missing information is the best way to proceed.

David's readme contains all the information required including explicit advice that additional stock is required and he gives the Description of the Stock with the associated file numbers

Kindest Regards

As the author of the activity, I am confused. You state that it is "ngempwdslt.wag" which you have missing. This is on the Bala Hub V4 CD. Have you installed the stock from this?

Neutronic - I did that and Kevin sent me the file, thanks.

Iluka - The description of the stock and files does NOT mention the wood/slate wagons, but I've now got the file, thanks.

David - if the file is on the CD, then my machine skipped it on installation, but Kevin has sent me the file, so all is serene, thanks.

Also, David, Thanks for making the activity. I enjoyed the old one immensely, and this afternoon I'm sure I will enjoy this one at least as much.

Thanks again to you all for sorting me out (again).

Could someone who has Bala 4 installed please check this and comment? I already had the file in question installed before Bala 4, but installed Bala 4 stock to a temporary directory to check what was installed and this file installed to the required folder name.

fiveft3 do you use Train Store? If so, did you store all but Bala Hub 4 before installing "The Large and the Small" activity?

If so "ngempwdslt.wag" would have been in store by Train Store as it is not used in any other activity on the Bala Hun CD. It would have appeared to be missing in the way you state.

David, at the time of installation of both Bala Hub4 and The Large and the Small, I did have Train Store, but I had nothing stored in it at all, as I could not get it to store anything at that time. (Yes, someone has since sorted this out for me).
I have this evening run the activity, and (as I thought), enjoyed it very much.
Anyway, thanks to yourself and Kevin, I am now "sorted out" (till the next time, anyway) and am a happy (if somewhat grumpy) old git again.
Seriously, I really appreciate the way so many people jump to my aid when I "Sound Off", and apologise to all for the belligerent attitude which I may appear to adopt at times - yes I do have a fairly short fuse, but it stems from my frustrations and annoyances at myself for being old and thick.

Once again, many thanks.
