Merseyside 3 - Doesn't Work

Post by BruceB »

Hello,

Unforcantly Merseyside 3 refuses to work on my system. MSTS doesn't even get as far as the main menu, or even any bars apprearing on the first loading screen - its just, run MSTS, MSTS freezes. This is with only 32 consists, 41 items of stock and no other routes.

Please help,

Cheers,

I had the same problem that it just appears to hang- it's the amount of paths (330). I cut it down to 3 (moved the others elsewhere), just so that I could have a look, and it loaded very quickly.

I have train store installed and it was showing both the old version 2 and the new Thames- Mersey route, but only one route (i.e.- Mersey) is showing in the trainsim route files. The version 2 still worked and the new route just hung with no bars. I tried to uninstall the new route and put the copy of version 2 back on and now neither of them work, so I will try another install. Just wondering though, should train store show the old (and it still worked) and new route ?

Cheers, I'll give that a try.

I had the same problem - but now it's fine. Try this:

1. If you have Train Store installed, ALL the default routes must be enabled before you install Merseyside. (If you didn't have your Default Routes enabled, you will need to delete the Route Folder "Mersey" and start again Mersey v1, Install.bat - Mersey v2, install.bat Mersey v3, install.bat (tedious innit? - but worthwhile)

N.B. Even if you don't have Train Store, ALL default routes must be installed - if you did a quick install with routes missing, you'll need to install the remaining MSTS default routes before you can get Merseyside to install properly!

2. Inside your Mersey Folder, create a new sub folder and name it OldPaths or whatever name you like. Go to the "PATHS" folder and cut all the files (select "Edit" "Select All" "Cut") Go back to the OldPaths folder and paste ("Edit" "Paste"). Now individually select a few paths (I chose London to Liverpool and Liverpool to London paths) and replace them in the "PATHS" folder. (Don't choose too many - the more you have the slower the route is to load!)

N.B. I don't know about other people and their machines, but I couldn't get Activity Editor to open the route with all the original Paths in the PATHS folder.

3. Go to MSTS Activity Editor and set up a simple activity using one of the paths you put back to the PATHS folder. (I didn't bother with any AI traffic - just set up a Warship class diesel for the first "test" activity from Euston to Liverpool Riverside.)

Go back to MSTS - select your activity. Go and make a cup of tea or have a glass of beer cos it does take a few minutes to chunk away.

ONCE YOU'RE IN THE ROUTE - ALL THE EFFORT IS WORTHWHILE!!!

Mine took a AGES to load, but thats with 7 routes (inc Mersey), 623 consists and over 800 items in the trainset folder. Well worth the wait when you get 2 class 40's pulling a mixed rake of maroon and blue/grey mark 1's out of Euston :D.

Must have done something wrong first time !! Yes, it does take ages to load, but as already stated by others, this is an absolutely gorgeous route. It's a good job I'm upgrading the computer soon as the frame rates are suffering and that just in explore mode ! Many thanks to all concerned in making this route.

Texture Errors a few miles out from Euston

Post by peterawl »

It does take a while to load, as stated above.

Ran the simulation OK, and set up explore route from Euston to THE NORTH. A few miles out of Euston get errors loading texture "UKBScrub.ace" and shape "JP2BSSlab 100m/s". Program then hangs!

Reducing the number of paths worked, cheers for that.

All now works - and wow - what a route! :D

Its worth trying the same trick with NWE which also has a lot of paths.

If you have both in the routes folder you can go on holiday while it loads

Textures missing

Post by peterawl »

Out to milepost 25 from Euston so far.

Three problems with missing textures so far:

PBScrub.ace
ukgscrub_pbscrub.ace
yellowbridge.ace

They are all reporting as missing from ...Mersey/textures. However, they do exist in other directories, some are in ...mersey/terrtex. Copying them solves this oddity. Otherwise embankments appear invisible, with floating rows of houses.

Can't understand why these textures are not in the right directory. Installation went as instructed.

Well according to route riter the routes got a clean bill of health,I have,nt got to milepost 25 yet :) but came the other way"north to south and its ok except i cant get steady frame rates 50f.p.s down to 7f.p.f in places. The thing is its dropping to low frame rates in areas where there aint a lot of scenery.have cleared all the paths out except four and that does fix the loading up time.

Pete i just travelled north past milepost 40 and i didnt get any scenery problems so it must be a problem in your installation.

Are activities included in the route because Matt hints at this here:
http://www.uktrainsim.com/index2.php?fo ... report=608

Surely doesn't that mean that taking paths out is a bad idea.
