FNW are great!

just been out to marple and back on a 142, sitting abouve the rear suspension (now feeling a bit sick!), the're a right growler! sounds like the new generation of 37s, but in DMU format lol.

Still, ive noticed the staff are great, not one of them on my journeys with a 142, 156, 158, 323 have had grumbly staff, they are all cheerful, and great to chat to!

but all i can say, sitting above the suspension on a 142 after a big KFC is NOT recommended!
nor can i suggest you try and read a paper on a 142, it took me ages to read one cos it rocks about so much!!

Not what I know - I dropped a pound on the train while giving the conductor money and he picked up a penny off the floor and said I'd dropped that - then called me dishonest when I disagreed with him! Also, FNW management are absolute . - when they cancel a train, they hardly ever bother aplolgising - they just say 'passengers waiting on platform xxx for xxx service, this train has been cancelled, you are advised to catch xxx train'. At least other companies say sorry.

What irks me about FNW is that after almost SEVEN years, they still insist on putting a tiny, overheated 153 on the busiest Morecambe-Lancaster services. I was going to take a photo one day to prove how bad it was... but I never got round to it, and I'm not taking my camera to work!

How can they, FNW don't even operate 153's. But I do say the some of the time, the 142's run some odd services sometimes, like a 142 came from (Warrington BQ i think), and the amount of people getting of the train was amazing, must of been plenty of people standing, it was like watching the crowd of people getting of the train from Euston.

Ok so when i was at Carlisle station 2 weeks ago, i was seeing ghost trains, all the Carlisle Whitehaven trains are oporated by 153's, with requested stopes.

Oh and by the way, the guard on one of the Whitehaven trains, was a very
polite person. although we were going the oposite direction (Glasgow) he went out of his way to ask if we were waiting for his Whitehaven train.

By the way JollyCribber, do you or have you ever worked on the Colne to Blackpool South train?

i only ask as i used to live in Accrington, Heard the train before you saw it,
could even here the train 2 miles away in our house. Wheel flang what a racket.

I can confirm that both the 08:29 Bare Lane-Lancaster, and 17:35 Lancaster-Bare Lane were both operated by 153's.

I don't think the 153s were included in the TPX deal frankly.

just to put a few things straight on 153's you will find none in the south of the region (those we had were given to arriva) there may be a few left in the north but those will also be given to other toc's and to the person who asked what routes i do i'm manchester piccadilly based so i mainly do lime street/ sheffields hadfields etc etc

I think they are largely based around Barrow and Carlisle.

Just a little comment on FNW. I caught one of their trains last week. There was only me to get on at the station and I had to past the conductor (guard) as I got on so she knew that I was on the train. She never came for a fare from me which I find amazing. I got to Preston and to come back being honest I went and bought a single from the Booking Office but once again no-one came to check my ticket so I could have travelled both ways without paying.
You will never convince me that that it is cost effective to have one person doing the guard duties and checking/selling tickets on trains. There should be an individual responsible solely for doing the ticketing duties. There must be thousands of pounds lost through people travelling without paying.
Everything these days is run by the bead counters and most of them do not have a clue about the practicalities of jobs. They just look at figures and balance sheets.

Even on my train they often do not even attempt to collect tickets because it's busy - how much lost revenue must that be?!?!? Though on the morning service they have 'upgraded' it to a 156 with 2 conductors. However from experience these upgrades are sporadic, and also tend to end when the school term commences.
