GWML (3)

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

GWML (3)

Post by Ricardo »

I have embarked onto a new project. Yes, you guessed it by the title it will be the 3rd GWML route. It will run from Paddington to Oxford and Chippenham and to Taunton(v2). Routes radiating from Reading include Basingstoke, Guildford, Bracknell and Woking. It will include all the branches frieght and passenger. Four well known heritage railways will also be included, these being Didcot Railway Centre, The East Somerset Railway, The Mid-Hants Railway and The Cholsey and Wallingford Raliway. Many new scenery items will have to be created along with some engines and rolling stock.
I hope for a late 2004 release of V1 and an early 2005 release for V2.

I hope to gain help from anyone who offers.

Cheers Richard :D

Hmm, loving the picture you've got there. Where is that HST running to? When was the picture taken? More importantly, where was it taken?

I'll help where I can, although I can't guarentee I can be of much help. Have you started the route already?

OK, I'll see if I can get some pictures of Paddington on Saturday. No promises though. I'll be spending every ounce of free time this week studying (5 months of degree work to catch up on!), trying to fit in Project H2P whenever possible. Might do a massive route building session Monday night/Tuesday morning...

A Quail map will be most helpful, and the book entitled 'Line by Line - The Great Western Mainline' (I think that's the title) will be more than helpful to you, what with gradient profiles in it for your line. Pity it doesn't include my line...

You should be able to get that book from any Ian Allen bookshop, as well as the Quail map (make sure to get the Great Western region one!).

I assume you are based somewhere near the GWML, as being near to it so as to travel down sections that you are building will prove useful. Photos of stations are more helpful than you'd imagine!

I live in Reading so perfect to go anywhere on the ex GWR. I have got the line by line but it is not as useful as the quail map i lost. I will get a new one tonight. I have a book with all the stations on the ex. GWR with fotos of "Then and Now". These are very helpful to me.
If you would like any particular shots i can scan them and send them to u.

Cheers Richard :D

That could be most helpful!

I was in Reading on Thursday!

Wow, at this rate the entire GWML will be built (admittedly in many different routes but hey, it will be excellent) by next year!

I have lost my Quail map too, but someone moved it ASAIK. Either that, or I accidentally took it with me to Cardiff that one day when I lost my map, timetable book and a few other bits and bobs.

I haven't got the Line by Line book, but after a quick flick through it looked useful. I might have a look at it when I visit Cardiff again in a couple of weeks.

Of course. I'd be delighted to be a beta tester.

Any chance to run a 43 (HST for those who don't identify trains by class number) on GW metals is welcome here!

I am looking forward to seeing screenshots of your route Ricardo. It should be good!

I just noticed this- I'd also like to help with the route. My route (Portsmouth-Southampton-Salisbury-Westbury-Bath-Bristol-Newport-Cardiff etc.) crosses over this at several points, so we could share station shapes etc. Also, I have been experimenting, and if you build the route in UKFinescale, it should be possible to share entire areas, i.e. where the routes run on the same world tiles it only has to be built once, then copied from one route into the other. As well as saving time, this also opens up the possibility of merging the routes together in their entirety...

Anyway, people are probably sick of me going on about merging routes by now

LOL!

Strange, I've only heard you mention it once, and that was on this thread.

It's a good idea though, and should save a lot of time!
