Waterloo - Waymouth

Post by Backfoot2002 »

I am planning to route from London Waterloo to Waymouth, going through stations such as Clapham Junction, Woking, Basingstoke, Southampton Airport Parkway, Southampton Central, Bournemouth, Poole and finally to Weymouth. Running along this line are companies such as Virgin Trains, South-West Trains, Wales & Borders, and also at some sections Wessex Trains. The route has not actually been started yet, as fro the past few weeks i have been gathering information, and i was waiting until i had my information, to annoce that the route would be going ahead.
I have one problem though. Only I am builidng the route, which is going to be very hard, as i will have to model, skin and route build. If anyone wants to join me in builiding this route, by help making 3D models, and such i would be greatful. I do not yet know if i will sell the route or make it freeware, but i have all the track plans for the entire length of the route, and all the relevent information, such as signal placings, bridges and viadust lengths. In all the route will be about 170miles long, which is a great distance, and will vary with 4 lines on most of the route (2 for high speed traffic, and 2 for slower commuter trains), and at some sections 2 lines.
If you wish to join me, then send me an email, or send me a PM.

I will be updating you with whats going on once i have enough people to help, and when i start to bulding the route, which should be sometime this week.

Hi

Use DEM dat - you'll get a lot further a lot faster, and it is best to do it before the track has been laid - there is a tutorial about how to do it in the Route Builders forum.

Hello.

If I can help, I will. You'll know I'm currently working on Project H2P, but I'd be glad to help wherever possible. I might be getting modelling software in the near future, when I do I could help you then.

I'll discuss this with you futher through private discussion.
Project H2P status: Currently awaiting software to fix PC problems. Got a start on .mkr file, hoping to continue that soon. Wprk should re-commence very soon.

I have a Southampton Airport Station you can have, but its built on a curve you'd need to have matching track layout.

I'd love to help build this route, having done most of it at least twice!

As for curved platforms, I'm trying to write a tutorial about this, which should be done once my exams are finished...

Hi

I originally offered to help Buffy with photos for the EB version and sadly that now looks pretty dead and buried (at least for the forseeable future)so if you want me to do the same for you for the Southampton - London stretch then i don't see why not. I also have TSM but I haven't really got round to using it a lot yet.

Update

Post by Backfoot2002 »

Dont know if any is really intrested un an update but if you are read on...

Well to begin i have made a start on the route (as you do), starting for Waterloo. I have created all the 'hairy' trackwork outside the station and also put all 24 platforms in place. The next station whih cis half complete is Vauxhall, i say 'half-complete' because i ahve layed teh trackwork down, but no platforms yet.

After Vauxhall ive carried on the trackwork through Queenstown Rd to Clapham Junction, and have near enough completed Clapham Junction"main" station (platforms 7 through to 17). At the moment I am sorting the mainline which runs through Clapham Junctions second side (Platforms 2 to 6) and also the sidings around the Area.

Going back to between Vauxhall & Clapham Junction, i have done most of the surround trackwork, braching lines, such as the mainline coming out of Victoria and the Viaduct flying over the mainline. I have also taken a little time to create Battersea Park station which s just north of Queenstonw Rd, with all of its 5 platforms completed.

Now carrying on from Clapham Junction I have taken the route of the L2B, (i dont know why, seen as though im going to weymouth), but thought I had better not cut the track short, so i carried it on to Wandsworths Common & then just north of the junction before Balham. I did his as creating activites will be more fun, because you can either use this line or have passing AI traffic running off it, through Clapham Junction and into Victoria.

Back onto the mainline, it is at a state, where the 4 tracks are just wating to be extended and carry on to Earlsfield and Wimbledon, which are the next couple of stations. Due to the fact that Wibledon has a huge Traincare Depot, i think i will finally, finish Phase 1 (Waterloo - Wimbledon) either by the end of this weekend or early next week.

Yes it will do, but im going to do all that at the end, as if i do it now, then about half way through the route and towards the end, the RE will run slower, when im placing track sections and such. Try it, go in the RE and add a lien of track into, say the NEC, and see the time it takes to place it, not a great deal, but imange creating a yard, with the section been layed that slow :(

Hi

Have you done the Terrain (ie using DEM for example) because doing that at the end will highligh ANY faults in your gradients or track. Several routes have been started and given up on when they realise they can't do terrain at the end without mucking it up.
