Oh no Couplers again!!!

Post by coxy64 »

Hi Everybody

As I have been away from the forums I might have missed the answer to this problem.

Sorry it's couplers again!!

I was running on Tim's Mideast Route from Kings X to Retford with both Dave Babbs HST and a Class 47 with 10 Coaches when for no reason over a set of points the front Loco became uncoupled from the Train.

This is most annoying as the trailing Coach became derailed and bang GAME OVER.

However when using the Class 91 and DVT this did not happen.
All Trains have Automatic Couplers.

Somebody mentioned to me that this is a Bug in the Sim!!
Has anybody found a fix apart from making all Couplers Bar type which is abit drastic.

I'm sorry if we are going over old ground again as I have been away for along time.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Gary,

Are you running v1.2 of MEUK or v1.3? Tim added a couple of crossovers to 1.3 to stop the coupler breaking problem. If you upgrade to 1.3 look for the set of fixed paths that I uploaded here so that activities for previous versions still run on 1.3.

Regards,

Bob.

Gary,

If you're running v1.3 you shouldn't have problems with broken couplers, unless that's caused by something else.

The upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3 is file 5103 and the collection of fixed paths is file 5162.

You can tell if you have 1.3 by whether you have the new crossovers or not. I'm at work at the moment and can't remember their exact location so that you can check. Try running the 1.2 to 1.3 update anyway and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks Bob

Checked and it is version 1.2 on my machine got both files now ready to install, so it should fix the problem.

Thanks for your quick response and pointing me in the right direction.

A word of warning, Gary. Copy only the paths you need from the fixed collection. If you copy them all into the Paths folder, MSTS will take forever to load.

I've just got MidEast and would like to confirm a couple of things :)

If I upgrade to to V3 I can still use V2 activities ? But only if I use the upgraded paths fix ?

Or do I upgrade to V3 and use the paths if I encounter any problems ?

Or do I upgrade to V3 and not be able to use V2 activities ?

From memory, there are three new sets of crossovers in v1.3. If you have an activity for 1.2 that doesn't go through any of them, it will still work. If it goes through at least one, the path will be broken and it won't work.

What I would suggest is to upgrade to 1.3 and then copy in all of the paths from the fixed collection. Then run Route-Riter's "Check All Activities". When it has completed, press the "Unused....." button, select the unused paths, right click and Move them. This will put them in a new folder in the Paths folder, called SparePaths. That way you will have only what you need and MSTS won't need the rest.

Just be aware that I can't be sure I had every path for every MEUK activity when I prepared the path fix collection.
