GWML West V2 - Cheltenham/Swindon-Exeter St Davids

Post by XPTE »

Well, it's been a long time coming. But the day has finally arrived when I can upload the route to the public. Just packaging it up with Route Ritter now, and doing the documentation, then it will take allmost 2 hours to upload. So I estimate it will be about 11pm until it's available to download. I'll first deal with all the existing emails from people who've allready requested it via email. Then I'll turn the auto-reply on, so if you email after 11pm you'll immediately get the link to download it by return. Hopefully there won't be a problem with Route Ritter to delay the route.

For those that aren't aware you'll need to download UK Finescale to use this route. Goto http://www.trainsimfiles.net to download it.

You'll also need Tsection dat build 19,21 or higher. Available on the UKTS downloads section.

And you'll need the MSTS update installed, available from http://microsoftgamesinsider.com/TrainS ... -18-02.htm

And if you're interested in the route but haven't read enough about it yet, then download the Information Pack first and have a careful read of it to decide whether or not you'd like to download it.

Appologies for the late time of day for the upload. So if you've got work or whatever in the morning, you'll either have to wait till you get back from work tomorrow or go to work bleary eyed!

Congratulations XPTE! You've done the route, and are ready to reveal it to us fans. Wow.

Anyway, make sure I get an e-mail please! You've got my e-mail address I should think.

immediately when they request it.

You'll need to create three folders in the route directory named Services, Paths and Traffic. They can be empty, they'll fill up when activities start to appear.

Glad you enjoed the route.

Far too early for me to say when Phase 2 will be ready yet I'm afraid! Now that the route has finally be released I'll be sitting back creating some non-stressful activities for it, as well as monitoring any feedback over the next 3/4 weeks and deciding whether it's worth continueing with the project. There has to be a demand for the project to be continued.

Yes I just tried it too and just got these error messages. I removed all the existing activities, services and traffic files from the route folder as they all used non-default stock. I wasn't aware it would result in these error messages.

Simple solution is to download and install activities first. Or even just go into Activity Editor yourself and creating any old activity to get it going. Just tried installing 1615 London Paddington-Taunton and it loads without any problems. The activity pack uses 13 items of stock. But a lot of this stock will be used for future activities anyway, so it's well worth downloading this lot. And to get the best enjoyment from the route, it's recommended you run the activities rather than explore mode.

I'll have to create and upload simple activity using the default stock so that people will be able to explore the route, without having to download those 13 items of stock.

If you have getright or other download manager, you have to disable it first (or hold shift while clicking the download link)

I downloaded the route tonight and also UK Finescale in order to make the route work.

So far no major problems - I had the problem already mentioned where I had to create some extra directories in order to get it to start exploring the route. I think I just created SERVICES, TRAFFIC & ACTIVITIES.

However, every time I start the explore route I get this message :

Failed to find SMS file raeurotrack0ex.sms

Then a similar message appears as soon as I click OK. If I use ALT-TAB to switch to desktop to acknowledge these messages then everything runs fine.

So far I have run a class 20 with the weedkiller train from Avonmouth to Bristol Temple Meads and an HST from Weston to somewhere east of Bath. I must say I am delighted with the route. Off to try some activities now :D

Now for some extra technical info - running on :

Celeron 1.3
ABIT VH6T with 1024MB RAM
ASUS Ti4200 with 128MB
1024 * 786 at 16bit colour depth

I get about 32 FPS most of the time. NB Zonealarm and CA Etrust virus scanner also running.
Kindest regards

Got exactly the same error as above - all activities run fine, well the ones tested so far and the route is fab, hope it gets developed further as it will look great with scenery all included.

Downloading the route now, after getting advice from XPTE on the issue. So long as my connection doesn't drop, I'll be fine.

I'd much rather download from UKTS though, as I can download with GetRight easily from there.
