The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Thought people might like to know about this...

Although not being done by me, I am in reasonably regular contact with a Route Builder (who shall remain nameless to save HIM hassle) who has extended Woodhead 2.2 down the GCR "London Extension" all the way south towards Rickmansworth and beyond!

If and when screenshots become available, I'll post them here!

Just to clarify, this is an entirely separate development to my own Woodhead 2.5 route!

Had to pass on this part of an email I got this morning

========================================
Steve,
I am afraid I was very self indulgent yesterday and instead of getting on
with the work drove the 10.00 Marylebone to Manchester. A 5hour journey! It was great and very evocative despite the lack (almost) of scenery south of Killamarsh and missing sidings in many places particularly Neasden and Marylebone. I did not check the e-mails till going to bed so didn't check your suggestions. Will do so without fail today and get my nose back to the grindstone!!!! Incidentally did you realise that I have connected Woodhead with the SMJ? Have you seen the latest Foxline book Manchester to Hayfield? It is very good indeed but means I have to get back to the route to correct certain errors that I put in due to lack of knowledge about the scenery.
========================================

I'd forgotten he'd extended the Romiley Marple line down to New Mills and up the long gone branch to Hayfield too!

But a five hour run from Marylebone to Manchester sounds fantastic!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all

I am currently asking any route builders with some spare time to ask if there is anyone planning , or is doing the GCR main line from Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre to the gap at MML (Midland main line)

I currently work for GCR N and we would like to see something like this plz:)

"I suppose this will cover this ??"

Thanks

You could be a bit happier about if you tried!!! :wink:

Apparently Richard Scott's R Stock has been seen running at the southern end of the route - now that really brings it home how FAR south the route goes!

I've requested some screenshots!

Just to add my tuppenceworth... NWE allows a direct drive from Manchester Piccadilly / Victoria through to Liverpool Seaforth complex. (courtesy of the re-opening of Olive Mount junction) :lol:

Ah, so the GC will beat the Midland from London to Manchester, in MSTS anyway. Sir Edward Watkin must be opening a bottle as we speak!

Trackwork looks promising but I really do hope this isn't going to be one of those "trains running over flat prairies" type routes. I'm always a bit wary when people don't build the terrain first with TSTools or TSTF as terrain built with the editors tools is almost always less convincing. There are noteable exceptions of course, but nothing looks like real geography IMHO.
