You're most welcome Andy, thank YOU for your patience and understanding during this less than adequate service period!

I shan't be going away for at least another year (hospital trips permitting of course!) so hopefully by then everything is stable ;)

I have the same problem, I renewed my subscription on 4/9/03 and my payment was successful but there was a fault in AtomIc system software. I no longer have Premium access and have emailed you on three occasions (including tonight Australian time) and have not had a response. I'm getting concerned about your lack of response. Could you please let me know what is going on????

Hello Bob,
It would seem we have email problems at the moment as I've just tried posting a message to support and its not arrived...

Mail me all the details to finndel@msn.com and I'll get it dealt with promptly. Meantime I'll try to figure out why our email system has suddenly quit too.

Sorry about that,
Steve

Hi Bob,
No problem. I kicked the mail server in the head and got a bunch of support messages in so that should in theory be working now... Maybe. Not sure why your original messages never made it though!

Anyway, glad you're sorted, drop me a line if there's anything else I can do to help

Steve, was it just the support address that was affected, or is it possible other addresses @uktrainsim.com have lost email?

I have noticed that sometimes the server takes up to an hour to forward messages on to my isp address.

It was the sending server (the one which generated the support emails from a web page) that needed the kick in the head, not the receiving server. The uktrainsim.com mail server itself hasn't been touched in months.

And an hour? Good heavens. I mean, a whole hour? ;) There can be a huge number of reasons for that, but basically it boils down to the fact that our server will try to contact your ISP immediately. If your ISP's server refuses to talk for whatever reason, our server will then re-try every hour. I won't be reconfiguring it to try any more often either otherwise it'll just die under a mound of retrying connections...

yeah, ok! :)

I guess i'm used to email getting round the world in a few minutes, and don't stop to think what a wonder is that it works at all!!

hee hee :)

Usually you can count on it being there in seconds, but if some small glitch happens then it'll be considerably longer....

Actually I think unfortunately a lot of the 'missing' mail is not missing at all. Its in the bin with about 4000 other messages that hit my Inbox each day that are subsequently marked as spam. If I answered all them I'd be an interesting looking guy cos each one claims I can add several inches.... LOL

Trouble is with all the spam filters, they do catch some legit stuff and if you start going through your trashcan to see which was really spam and which wasn't then you might as well just deinstall the spam filter anyway!
