Buying an HST?
Im 17: Could I drive my own HST down to London and Back?
Im 21: Could I drive my own HST down to London and Back?
How much do you think 2 power cars and 1 MK3 Coach would be?
Do you think NR would let me buy the old Class 58 thats been in Leicester Depot since forever? LOL £1!

I'd love to have my own customised voyager or something. Of course it'd need a siding near my house and a direct line to Network Rail o manage paths. Plus I'd need a word with Bombardier about training and interior fitting. and then the livery...
Would ne nice though, just to suddenly decide to go to York, select your route and go, stabling in the freight sidings there

You know you're a pilot when you drive off a cliff, and your last words are "Gear up!"

Ur opening posts asked if u were 17 or 21 could u drive a HST to London. When told you had to be 21, you replied by asking would it matter if you owned the train and the line.
Totally confusing. Trains cost millions of pounds, they arent owned by Network Rail, but Train Leasing companies. U may need to be 21 to driveer a train (after extensive training), but i bet there are far more rules about owning one......and keeping it.
getting back to reality.........

Depends, you'd need one hell of a runway, but it would be possible. File for VFR from your house and keep under 2000 feet. You'd also need a PPL with Multi-Eng and MultiCrew bonuses, and a type rating for the Concorde, but you could probably do it.buffy500 wrote:Do you think I could fly concorde to work ?
I had a real flying lesson recently.
I've flown it in MSFS so I know I'm ok at it.
I know it returns a low MPG and all that but I'm real keen!
Probably be about £10k for the license, plus Concorde + respective fees.
Horgy

At least you'd only pay £1 for the concorde itself (if BA would let you). but you'd need a fueling point installed at your home, linked to an oil refinery, plus youd need to install runway lights on the street for night landings, plus ILS landing systems. And I don't think the neighbours would be happy with the noise

Porterbrook flogged off some thumpers to Heritage lines recently, apparently for "nominal sums" which I'm sure, given the right line, was probably about a quid.southcoasttrains wrote:You have to be 21 to drive trains mate.
Trains don't cost £1 or's Porterbrook and Angel Trains would be out of business.
Don't actually need an ILS, you could do it visual..martinhodgson wrote:At least you'd only pay £1 for the concorde itself (if BA would let you). but you'd need a fueling point installed at your home, linked to an oil refinery, plus youd need to install runway lights on the street for night landings, plus ILS landing systems.
