My New Activities

The MSTS Activity Editor allows you to make your own activities, or missions, for the player to complete. This is also how you can get lots of other trains running while you drive yours!

My New Activities

Post by Lad491 »

Hi everyone

Ive just started uploading my new activities for the L2B addon. They are all reverse runs or additional runs to follow on from or link up to, those supplied with the package. I have about 8 so far which i am uploading 2 each day. You can take a guess at what they are as I have followed Europeanbahn's naming convention, so my 6a is the reverse of their 6 etc.
They are all passenger runs using default stock so everything needed is contained in the zip file.

I am interested in getting feedback on them - especially as almost 100 of you have downloaded my first two so far ( a fact that quite amazes me ).

Please post any comments in this thread - they will be more than welcome.

I have downloaded 4 of your activities sofar. unfortunately so far I have only tried one that being the Down non-stop EB-03a. Everything is fine until south of Burgess Hill where I discover that the up train has derailed already or crashes into my train depending on the time factor. How do I prevent the uptrain derailing.
Thanks

Thanks for that - ive not seen this happen in the many times ive played the simulation. I'll run it again tonight and see if it occurs for me.

I have discovered one small error in the northern activity which, although it still runs to completion ok, allows you to arrive at the unrealistic time of 12 minutes early. I will be changing that one asap.

These were my first two attempts at activity creation, hopefully later ones should be better.

ok - ive run the simulation again to completion without a problem, but I think ive spotted where the problem might be occurring. Could I ask you to let me know, from the next station display, your journey time and mileage from Brighton where either the collison occurs or the AI trains collide.

At one point on the route an AI train from Eastbourne waits on the spur at Wivelsfield for you to pass whilst shortly after you pass a Thameslink service from Brighton on the up main. If you are driving slower than me ( i usually drive close to the speed limit unless im under cautions) it is possible that the Eastbourne train will be released onto the up line ahead of you - rather than behind you - causing a collision with the Thameslink train. I need to see your time and mileage to confirm that is what is happening though.

If you run at close to the speed limit - i usually keep about 2 or 3 mph below except where there are temporary limits when i go about 5 mph under - you might find the collisions dont happen. But if that is what is actually happening I can tweak the AI times slightly.

A revised version of the Brighton Belle Northerly Non Stop is now available. Version 1.01 fixes a couple of issues associated with AI traffic. My apologies to those of you who downloaded the first version and now have to do it all over again. I'll try harder to get it right first time next time

Re LB-3A Thanks very much for your comments. Driving at your suggested speeds after stopping at a red signal proceeded on the route and met the offending train at 11.13.04 8.36 miles from Brighton. No accident occurred.
When I 1st tried this activity following your suggestion contained in your notes not to go mad as speed checks would show after Haywards heath I drove slower after Balcombe Viaduct. I met the Citylink flyer just south of Haywards Heath and I noticed the train waiting on the branch line at Keymer Junction. South of Burgess Hill I saw the up train approaching and saw it derail and smash into my train. It was quite a sight.
Keep up the good works and thanks

Im a bit disappointed to have received only 3 feedback replies when almost 500 copies of my activities have now been downloaded. My thanks to the 3 who have replied, your comments are appreciated.

For the rest I must assume they thought the activities were rubbish and didnt want to hurt my feelings by saying so. So, more feedback PLEASE, good or bad or indifferent i'd like to know so I can try and make them or any new ones im working on better.

From experience, I would suggest that thats probably not true. (or 99% of people have thought all my freeware to be total cr@p).
I very very rarely get any kind of feedback for my freeware releases.
This probably means there is nothing much wrong with it, because people would be quick enough to mention it if there was a problem.
The last few HST's raised the most positive feedback I've had in many many months, and I think it amounted to <5 responses. (for something downloaded over 1050 times)

Welcome to freeware. ;-)

Yep don't worry about it mate. I'm sure a VERY good percentage of the people who downloaded your activties enjoyed them. I remember last year I posted a topic asking for feedback on my GNEReastcoast activities and only got about 4 replies, despite download counts of 100+. I would imagine that most people who download them are not activie members of these forums and the rest are too lazy to post a response!

So in short, don't worry about it, and carry on creating those activities.

Thanks Dave and XPTE - Im glad im not alone in being on the receiving end of apathy. Its a pity as im really new to activity writing and i really did want some constructive comment or critisicm so i could learn and improve. I shall just draw encouragement then from the numbers of downloads so far and take the optimists view that i have hundreds of happily satisfied customers.

Thank you for taking the time to reassure me. Im taking a short break now before i start on the next batch of 8 or so.

The final activity in this series - the empty coaching stock return trip from Horley to Brighton Sidings is now awaiting authorisation. This is without doubt the hardest of the activities i have tried to write. Depending on how you drive there are two different outcomes. It has already undergone 5 revisions before distribution but i hope now that all the bugs have been ironed out.

Hope you like it.

This concludes my first series, now im planning my second.

There seems to have been some sort of delay with this activity.
Its been awaiting authorisation for almost a week now. Sorry to those of you who are waiting patiently. If anyone wants a copy direct to save time, mail me here and i'll e mail the zip file to you.
