Routes that have other routes as prerequisites

Post by pjduplooy2017 »

Hi guys.

After owning both routes for more than a year now, and going through a reinstall of TS, I just saw that a prerequisite for the Valley Corridor Line is the ECML London Peterborough. Now my question is this, I want to de clutter my TS, and take a bit of a themed approach to installing routes. Can I use TS Tools, and just use the assets from the ECML that it shows Valley Corridor requires without the ECML showing up in my routes? I have done it with third party routes. Is there a legal issue with me doing so? I know certain software developers legally forces you to use the "whole" of a program, and not just parts of it (MS did it with Solitaire a few years back, you had to install the whole of Windows, and not skip Solitaire)

It would seem to me, as a layman, that what you do within the confines of your own home/computer/estate with any product is entirely up to you, provided that:

(i) you do no injury to any other person;
(ii) you provide no service to any other person that would infringe the rights of the product's originators/owners,
(iii) you do not use the product for unlawful purposes, and
(iv) you do not expect the originator/owner to rectify any damage or restore any loss of functionality that results from your re-engineering the product.

Merely an opinion, of course, offered without prejudice... :-?

Now, can we hear from those who know what they're talking about, and can cite relevant case law? :)

The ECML-L2P will come with a ECMLSAssets.ap in railworks\Assets\RSC\ECMLS

And a MainContent.ap in \railworks\Content\Routes\00000029-0000-0000-0000-000000002014
You could delete the contents of that folder which would save you 375Mb

The Assets folder is much larger and if you removed it then you would lose the signals you need for Valley Corridor

Note also a Steam Verify would replace the missing *.ap files

Surely you can uninstall/remove any DTG route and its associated Route-specific Assets via Right-clicking on Train Simulator via your Steam account - Properties - DLC - search for the route and untick it. (Definitely legal).
Of course, it won't remove any addon DTG DLC Assets (eg Loco pack, etc) that you purchased extra for the route, but if you know what those are then they can be uninstalled the same way.
Always remember ASSETS in TS are around 5 times larger than the Content-Routes, so just removing routes may not save as much disk space as you would hope.
