I do use a raildriver but no joystick. I tried TS without rd but had the same issues. However, if restarting after changes to settings defaults TS to 32exe. then that would be the answer. I can't remember any mention of that before. Thank you for confirming it. As I hardly ever touched the settings after setting them to high then this particular issue had never arisen. Will default myself to closing and reopening ts after changing settings. I presume it should retain them? Cheers.
Hi Mojo.
After altering settings, let TS re-start in 32.bit then close TS and re-start in 64.bit. All setting changes will be saved after the initial re-start .

Thanks for the advice, jp. I'll try it this afternoon. Seems a strange way to work around it, but then I suppose we wouldn't normally be changing settings that often. Cheers.

It's simpler and quicker to say 'No' to the restart, then manually close and re-open the 64-bit version in your normal way.

Back to square 1. Turned down TS graphics settings to basic, tried both suggested methods of restarting ie programme restart and closing/restarting. Tried the same scenario again-14 fps with the occasional 15. Tried a Settle and Carlisle scenario, same result. Is there any mileage in uninstalling TS, and reinstalling? GPU, memory and processor all withstood the Aida64 stress test, but the Windows indexing still shows lower graphics performance, compared with before. Is it the card, or is there somewhere else I should look? Cheers.

Further to my previous post, it looks like my card is only running on half its memory. I checked again with diax.diag, Asus and HWinfo, all showing half the memory available. Does that mean the card is faulty or is there some system aspect that can halve the gpu memory? Card is only around 18 months old, never overclocked so disappointing if its lost half its capacity. Cheers.

And more. My bios recognises the 8GB. Seems to be getting waylaid somewhere.

Mojo
It is a fairly common (old) problem: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/fo ... b-of-vram/
Some spec software and old benchmarks do not report the correct amount of VRAM. Use System Information from the Nvidia Control Panel to see the correct amount of dedicated video memory. And if for some reason you don't trust Nvidia, you can use GPU-Z:
It is most likely a Windows 7 reporting issue as discussed above.

Thanks Peter. Will keep looking for answers. May try reinstalling driver. I presume installing the appropriate driver from Nvidia directly is not affected in any way by the KBA 2019 SHA -2 code signing you mentioned previously? Cheers.

One more question. I have Steam and TS 2021 installed on my S: drive. If I install Win 10 again on another ssd (keeping 7 for now in dual boot), will I then just be able to run TS as before from my S: drive, but in the Win 10 environment, or will I need to do anything else? Cheers.

You should have no bother running Steam from the S: drive.

Mojo
Ask yourself why you REALLY need both Windows 7 and windows 10 (Windows real ver 7.3)?
Win 10 works with a lot of old software and any that it doesn't there will be a fix on the web somewhere, or an updated version.
Why burden your system with 2 x OS's that virtually do the same thing? :D

Downloading the latest driver from nVidia for windows 7 should not affect anything.

Thank you both. You've convinced me. Whether it will solve the current TS problem remains to be seen, but the change is long overdue. Cheers.

So I bit the bullet and installed win 10 again on a separate ssd. it's all gone remarkably smoothly, once I'd sorted out the dual boot set up. I'm keeping Win 7 for now, whilst I get to grips with 10.Booting into 10 changes the lettering of the drives. My TS and Steam content is on another ssd. How do I initiate the sim with both the operating system and the drive lettering having changed? Is it just a case of changing the content drive lettering? Its quite a while since I installed TS so I'm treading extremely carefully with this move. Many thanks

It's dead easy to change drive lettering, see
