UKTS 31979 Blue Pullman sounds

Post by rikwesson »

I was using the Blue Pullman today and thought the default Deltic sound didn't sound right. Is there a way of aliasing it to some other loco/unit that might be more suitable and if so what would people suggest to use (HST or Western maybe?)

I too await an answer, The NAM engines were a bit unique and dont forget some of the coaches each had a Rolls Royce engine in the sub frames for lighting, aircon, etc, they made a row too. I have the BTS DVD Blue Pullman, I will have a listen again to see what they are like, as for the XML script, someone cleverer than me will point at an exisiting text or show "ow it's dun lad"

https://www.railcar.co.uk/type/blue-pullman/motor-cars
Power for the main and auxiliary generators was supplied by the NBL/MAN 12-cylinder vee-type supercharged diesel engine of type L12V18/21BS having a 12-hr. rating of 1,000 hp at 1,500rpm

Maybe the sound from a Warship might be suitable for the Blue Pullman - at least better than a Deltic sound

I did think Warship but has anyone done proper sounds for a Warship in the sim? I have also noticed that the sounds in cab are not very good. There is no idling sound and only a low drone if power is above 30%. The model itself is great and I will use it for AI. If anyone out that can alias the sounds to something more appropriate I for one would really appreciate it as it fits in nicely with the Manchester-Sheffield-Derby route I am into at the moment.

All the best, Richard.

I was having another look and I thought about the Kuju V200 as a sound source

So in both Blue Pullman MotorCar1.bin and Blue Pullman MotorCar2.bin I changed one line

<BlueprintID d:type="cDeltaString">Audio\RailVehicles\Diesel\Class 55\Class 55 Engine Sound.xml</BlueprintID>
to
<BlueprintID d:type="cDeltaString">Audio\RailVehicles\Diesel\V200\V200 Engine Sound.xml</BlueprintID>

Both locos are in the Kuju folder so the Provider/Product files did not need to be changed.

I have never heard these trains in real life and even the Blue Pullman video does not have any sounds of the engine when running so until something better comes along it will do for me.

For me, the Warship from the (Riviera) Hydraulics pack has reasonable sounds. I think all the surviving Warships are Maybach/Mekydro rather than MAN/Voith so not a perfect donor, but if you have it see what you think.

To be fair, neither the DB V200.0 (BR 220) nor the V200.1 (BR 221) had MAN engines. The first had either Maybach or MTU ones, the latter only MTU engines. The only other engine I can think of spotting the same engine are some members of the V100 family.

Peter, I have changed the sounds to the V200 and the cab sounds are better, if a bit loud. I tried to put in the DTG class 35, by changing the Provider/product and the loco, but obviously did it wrong as I got silence from the units. Any thoughts as to what I have to change, to get other sounds in please.

Richard.

Edit. I just re-installed the Blue Pullman to make sure I didn't mess anything up, but I notice now I only have the track sounds and the space bar horn sounds in cab. No engine noise at all! Is this the same for all or just me?

If you have reinstalled the Blue Pullman then the Motor Coach bin files would have reverted to default and they are looking for the Kuju Deltic.
Somebody else had posted how to change the Volume when the engine sounds play

If you are using the Hymek sounds they have some Class 37 sounds thrown in.

AFAIK there are no recordings of what the Blue Pullman sounded like so it is a personal preference as to which sounds you give the unit.

There is a sound clip on you tube (Sound Clip of Blue Pullmans recorded by Peter Handford).

With the Deltic sound on the Pullman the volumes are quite low, whereas on the V200 they are not.

I think you can change the V200 Engine Sound Config.proxybin file or the V200 Engine Sound Config.proxyxml file to play the sounds at a lower volume - but I'm not sure what to.

Just wondering Peter, have you listened to the recording on you tube? If so, what do think it sounds like most?

I found the clip and It is a higher sound than the V200 or even a Western

maybe we should use the HST sound as it has a bit of a scream when you hear the rear power car

EDIT - The sounds are higher but a bit old and not quiet right
I tried aliasing it to the AP Valenta sound but it's not that easy - for me

The Baby warships used a variant of the same engine but with their hydraulic transmission. At speed in the recorded clips they do sound like the rest of the hydraulic engines, it’s surprisingly hard to know what a MAN NBL engine sounded like under load or in-service.

Another interesting thing to note is that these units had three desilux horns instead of two, so the “third” chime produced an American-sounding two-note horn. Something that inevitably would set it apart from other locomotives and stock at the time.
