Not really very helpful Gary - these are not career scenarios where you might expect this to happen, they're just standard ones. I for one tend to push the speed up to just 0.1mph short of the limit, which builds in some headroom for completing the scenartio within the prescribed time. That's almost impossible to do the way these are scripted.

I've travelled on the real SVR a zillion times and have probably always reached a speed of 26.4mph, like you, Ash. Fortunately we didn't all get thrown off the train in the middle of nowhere.
I never use F4 and only ever use F5 when I'm driving steam, so I rely on the locos speedo and some can be difficult to tell whether it's 25 or 27 and if it is 27, big deal. As I said in my opening post I think I shall have to make my own scenarios. Once more people fall foul of this I think they will realise how frustrating it actually is.

Incidentally, I'm a little surprised not to see the diesel depot at Kidderminster, or did I miss an announcement at some point?

Cheers,

That took you 2 1/2 hours (between your complaining post and the fixed post), so it's hardly an issue that warrants wholesale condemnation.

I haven't yet installed this route as I'm short of one or two of the requirements, but did you also download the update that was sent out a couple of hours after the initial release yesterday?

Hi, are there any details for this route? and how much is it. The link takes me straight to a page asking if I want to purchase it with no other details! Also, I cannot find any on the SSS site.

Hi Richard

The route is a free download. When you enter your details it will just give you the route to download. The requirements are included in the download.

Regarding the included scenarios, this is from the Facebook page of Golden Goldsmith Scenarios....

"Just a quick statement...
Although we did provide 50+ scenarios for the Severn Valley Railway for Steam Sounds Supreme, I would just like to point out that we didn't receive any testing feedback and therefore can not provide a huge amount of support. Hopefully they work OK but no guarantees,
We will update with the new Manor, 28xx, and AP MK1s etc as well as hopefully having them all tested ourselves when we can.
Sorry for the inconvenience".

In your opinion...

Without the much more helpful advice from Brysonman, I would not have known to look in the .lua files.

Can we get some perspective people please.
No one needs to edit any .lua scripts if they obey the warnings and keep to line speed.

How many of the included scenarios are affected by this anyway?

Also please read my earlier post regarding lack of testing of the scenarios before release.

Also please bear in mind that the route and scenarios are freeware.

No, but a calm request for assistance instead of launching teddy across the room would have soon done the trick.

See above.

And that gents, and children, tells us that the scenarios aren't broken or flawed, just not written to suit 2 members driving styles.

Leave out the personal insults Gary. No Teddies were harmed by my comments.

OK...just make sure he gets out on a picnic ASAP...

To get back to more TS related stuff...

It's interesting that deleting the .lua/.luac broke the scenario as I've been struggling with another, unrelated, one where deletion was the only answer---once the scripting was out of the way the scenario ran fine, even though the trigger messages were still in the task list for the player service. That suggests that it's very much a "case by case" strategy, with no clear rules or guidelines.

It seems like an unusually opinionated way of writing a scenario. It's not like Train Simulator requires every scenario writer to implement their own system of informing the driver of speed limits and this is how they chose to do it. They deliberately went to extra effort to implement this, even though the simulator already provides overspeed warnings automatically.

It's an extremely strange choice to impose it on this route in particular. The SVR trackbed is maintained to a very high standard - mainline units have been tested on the Kidderminster - Bewdley section at speeds of up to 60mph, so there is no derailment risk at 26.4 mph. Furthermore, many of the locos used on the line have no speedometer at all, so expecting exact and continuous compliance with the speed limit is unrealistic. Whilst I don't want to criticise the professionalism of SVR footplate crew, I suspect in real life if every steam driver carried someone with them who sat there silently hunched over hand held GPS, but would immediately suspend them if they travelled at 26.4mph, they'd very soon have no drivers left!
