Hello all,
Anyone had Utilities suddenly not working at all?
I had it working fine before, packed my JT Met line up with it and all that, yesterday got some reskins from Superalbs for a scenario I found to drive, and they are .rwp files, so I opened up the utilities shortcut on my desktop, and nothing happened. I tried right click and choosing run as admin, nothing, all I get is the blue spinning loading wheel for a couple of seconds, and nothing. I tried opening it in Railworks own folder, does the same thing, loading wheel then nothing.
I restarted the PC and still did the same, so I thought maybe it will take time and suddenly appear. So I left it and changed the .rwp's to .zips and unpacked it myself, and done the .Geo files as required and did this for the next few files. 20 minutes later it was clear it wasn't loading. Having been switched off all night, I just tried it now and it still won't open, something wrong here! I can unpack things fine by making them zip files instead, I'll still need this for packing up scenario's though.
Has anyone else had this? Don't know if it's the same problem but on a similar program that is supposed to run through the runway data on flight sim Prepar3D, it flicks open for a nano second, literally a lighting flash that you only see half load in the taskbar at the bottom and then doesn't open. Also a .exe file but then I've not long had it and not got it to work, and is designed for FSX but supposed to work on Prepar3D, off topic a bit I know but I don't know if it's a co-incidence that this isn't working as well as Utilities, but then it's the only 2 .exe's I can't get to work, everything else like Railworks itself and other programs are fine.
I am on Win 10 Pro
Any help appreciated!
James.

Re: Utilities.exe not working?
I just tried the shortcut from my desktop and I get the usual "Do you want this App from an Unknown Publisher to make changes"
And I click yes, I get a spin of the wheel and it starts
I'm on Win10 Home - but my Railworks folder is not on my C drive
Do you need to Run as Administrator to make to work?
Peter

What happens if you run Utilities.exe from the RailWorks folder directly?...let's see if the shortcut isn't passing over the elevated permissions to the .exetubemad wrote:I opened up the utilities shortcut on my desktop, and nothing happened

Re: Utilities.exe not working?
Alert over, it's working now. What did I do? I've no idea!!
Gary - I mentioned in the original post that I tried it direct from the Railworks folder, and was having the same result of it loading then doing nothing.
I decided today to go on my flightsim, I loaded it then it disappeared and was left with the desktop with no warning. I did have the AI setting's quite high though, so I set those down, and it crashed again. I did a restart of the PC, and then it loaded up fine. Did my flight, just finished it now, came on here to see if there were any replies. Saw the 2 above, opened my Railworks folder, opened up Utilities.exe, and it opened!
Then tried the desktop shortcut, and that opened as well!
It seems going for a flight fix the problem
other than that I've no idea how it decided to work itself...

TM
When I had this issue I removed (copied to another folder) the last 20 or so "pi files" that I had installed, and Utilities.exe opened OK, I then copied the 20+ files back in batches of 5 and it worked OK each time and has never been an issue since?????
My theory is that for some reason one of the "pi" files can't access (for whatever reason - this is TS after all) the Assets file that it needs to and then U.exe can't start.
But I could be totally wrong!
