Google Earth - please remind me...

Post by rkk01 »

A badly underpowered PC has kept me out of the editor for several years...

In opening some old route projects, and a newly cloned route, I’m finding I can’t get the GE overlay to display.
The API key is loaded and the GE fly out is available in the editor. However, all I get is the spinny blue circles and no overlay :-(

I’ve checked resolution and GE tile sizes and they’re set pretty low - Any ideas???

Have got the right api key; it's Google Maps you want, not Google Earth.

I think under the ancien regime one had the option to avoid committing to a Google payment system and have an account - or it was free for the first 12 months after Google brought in fees for using their map service - something like that. I was very wary of doing so but bit the bullet, signed up and get the google earth overlay without any problems. You have to be a pretty heavy user to incur any charges. They email you an invoice monthly and mine has been £0. Quite what the mechanics of instigating the system is I just cannot recall bu there are plenty of threads on here about it.
