Snailbeach Wagons

Thinking of making these next - I have always rather liked them but..

I can't find any drawings etc. Dundas Parkside and Wrightlines made models of them and there was a book on the railway. Does anyone have dimensions or a drawing of them they could send me ? Otherwise I will prob use some of the few photos of them behind locos to get a sense of the rough dimensions.

Have a look at this blog page, about half way down. Not accurate measurements, but there may be a clue within the text as to origin

May not be a lot of help :-?

Work is progressing on the wagon and I have got a rolling chassis now. Much work to do yet - not least some better coupling chains - but they look about the correct proportions at least.

Hoppers on and side stays etc fettled. I think that these will be out by end of weekend if I get a clear run at it.

The Snailbeach hopper wagons have been uploaded this afternoon. There are four liveries and each livery has an empty wagon and four fixed loads ( sand, gravel, and stone ) making 16 combinations in all. The picture above is the USED SDR livery which is the working wagon carrying the Snailbeach District Railway SDR lettering. There is also an un-lettered version of the used livery as well to be more generic.

There is also an un-lettered and WORN rusty version that is a match for the photos from the 1950's

and also a NEW version that is an all over grey paint with the SDR lettering. This sort of matches the restored wagon that lives at the Snailbeach site at present as part of the Shropshire Mines group site.

The wagons include a new chain coupling which works pretty well and all the usual sounds. I have also included three quick drive consists that use my Skylarks as this is the engine that is photographed with these wagons. At present the loads are fixed as I haven't built an unloader yet - when I get round to making my mineral workings layout then I will build something suitable. Anyway enjoy.
