Scenario Size

Post by 749006 »

I was editing a scenario with RW Tools to try to get it to work

A number of problems are
1- It is in a different Language (German) so only the Player Train shows in the Scenario Timetable Editor
2- It has a number of Loose Consists that have no train or stock in them but I can only delete one at once in RW Tools
3- Each time I edit the Scenario in RW Tools it grows in size - it started at 17mb and it is now 22mb :o

Is there any way to edit the scenario outside the RW Tools Scenario Editor as it won't load in the game

Thanks

Peter

3. is normal, Peter. I suspect it is measuring the contents of the directory and not the actual scenario file size. The size is probably increasing in recognition of the backup files it keeps creating.

2. When you are in the Select Route and Scenario window, there is an option "Remove Empty Consists from Selected Scenario".

1. Dunno. I haven't encountered that.

Hope some of this helps,

John

Thanks John,

I had not spotted the Remove Empty Consists - I will give it a go.

Peter

EDIT - no difference as it crashed with an Out of Memory warning - 22mb is a bit too big for it

Hi beware of empty consists - sometimes they contain scenery - snowdrifts are usually favourites. :)

Peter, using File Explorer op the scenario's GUID folder (RW Tools will show you the number) and delete the .bak files. It will then show as the true size. Your problem isn't the size, but a file involverd being iffy. Whilst you're in the folder deleting .bak files, check that there isn't a StartingSave.bin file. If there is, leave it alone and post back. In fact, Better still, it'd be handy if you could post a screen shot of the folder contents.

I thought I would start again and copy fresh versions in to the Scenario folder but they were still big files

I have figured out why the Scenario was so big - there were two 9.47mb audio files which played the Nokia Theme :o as the scenario starts and the author then speaks something in German
Deleted them and the scenario is now down to 3.25 MB.

It now appears in the Drive menu but having swapped some locos for others it still fails with Out of Memory - I might give up on this one as there are 6 or 7 locos I don't own
