Problem with Shimmering Scenery

Post by 749006 »

I just purchased the Wutachtalbahn: Lauchringen – Immendingen Route and had a Quick Drive to view the route
But I noticed a Problem with Shimmering Scenery mainly trees

Has anyone come across this before?

Definitely, this was the reason I returned the route the first time I bought it at full price. Finally later on, bought it again at half price and decided to keep it hoping that applying community updates would fix it. And I never got to it to apply the updates. :)

So yes, the issue is there, perhaps some people are not that sensitive to it and perhaps using NVIDIA's DSR or NVIDIA's own AA (set in the CC) helps alleviate the issue. I don't know.

There are 2 updates for this route on the German website, Peter, I don't have this route personally, so, unsure exactly what the changes are, I guess the vegetation as that is one of the biggest bugbears in routes generally speaking.

Can you identify a single asset that shimmers Peter?
It could then be easily tested in isolation, on a blank route under different settings without risking making a route worse.

You should be alright once you apply the community patch. I had a couple of items I had to manually edit with RWtools due to paths being wrong in some of the veg, but I believe it has been sorted now. Patches as always make a big difference, I think I only have the first applied, will need to check.

It is the trees that seem to shimmer but as somebody has done a patch for this route I'm going to try that as an easy option

Don't think the problem is with the route, I don't have that route, but get that effect of other routes, not all the time though, think it is just one of the bugs in the core program.

It's more likely to be the asset rather than some mysterious *bug* in the game core..

I put this down to the AA (Anti-Aliasing) Effect which can change wrt to your monitor, graphics card, driver and settings in both.
On my system (GSync @ 144Hz) I only see shimmering at the very centre of the monitor and it seems to "disappear" as the object gets nearer to you or is in the periphery of the monitor. It does not happen on all routes and it seems worse when there are no leaves on the trees.
I have asked several times why shimmering is worse in the very centre of the monitor, but no one apparently knows why that is. :-? Parallax effect? :-?

At a guess and this is a guess! the default fxaa uses a fixed size for sampling - probably that bit in the middle! Have you tried UKTS_34510_FXAA_Eliminator? I use the corrected version or none cos some of the others give weird effects with the AP sky enhancement pack. :)

Thanks Gents,

I'm currently only having the problem on this German route so I'm unsure about trying the UKTS_34510_FXAA_Eliminator if it only helps this route.
I don't have the AP Weather pack so at lease it would not be a conflict

Hi Peter, it is a manual replace of 1 file which it tells you to backup/rename anyway so a simple delete and rename if you don't like it. :) The corrected one for me gives the best result but might be different on yours.

Thanks Mark, I will give that a go and another run along the line

I tried the Reduced version on this route but that did not make any difference to the effect.

One of the flickering trees on the route is called Near_tree_A.bin and there are three more with suffix B,C & D
