MSTS not opening on Win 10
I recently installed MSTS on my pc, the installation went fine however whenever i run train.exe i get a black screen for a most 20 seconds before crashing back to my desktop. I suspect its to do with having an AMD graphics card but i'm not 100 percent sure. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can shed some light on what to do it. Note it's installed to E:/MSTS
PC Specs in case needed:
Graphics: 8GB RX580
Processor: Ryzen 1600x 3.6GHz
Ram: 16Gb

Re: MSTS not opening on Win 10
Hi ryan51,
I don't have an AMD RX580, but that is 99.99% certainly the reason for MSTS to be crashing. There is a work-around, although I can't guarantee that it still works. You need to be a member of elvastower.com to be able to read this thread : http://www.elvastower.com/forums/index. ... -possible/
Alternatively, if you have MSTS installed, you can add routes and stock to it, but run them using Open Rails - see here : http://openrails.org/download/program/
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS not opening on Win 10
Hi ryan51,
I am surprised that 'fix' works, but it may depend on which version of the AMD drivers you're using.
I would be interested, so that I can update my records and advice I give to others, so could you please post the version of the drivers you are using.
Thanks,
Cheers,
Ged

The Driver im using at the moment is Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.4.3 Optional so long as the instructions are followed the "fix" i suspect should work with most of the amd driversslipperman12 wrote:Hi ryan51,

Re: MSTS not opening on Win 10
Hi ryan51,
Many thanks for the information
If you are able to use the AMD BugFix it must mean that AMD have re-instated the atiumdag.dll file, probably as a result of pressure from players of other 'legacy' games!
If you are interested, this was my previous thread on this subject : http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... &hilit=amd
I am not in a position to test my AMD cards (due to having a broken arm), but probably in a month or so I'll dig them out!! Of course, it could be that my HD 6870 and HD 7850 are no longer supported by the latest drivers. in which case, I'll just keep quiet
Cheers,
Ged

The drivers for those cards are the same as for mine so i can confirm the fix will work on them as well and atiumdag.dll is in a different place now, if the instructions are followed from the other page its pretty easy to get running.
Regards,
Ryan

Hi ryan51,
Thanks, again
That will be good news to other MSTS/AMD users, if there are still any who haven't moved to Open Rails!!

Re: MSTS not opening on Win 10
Hi ryan51
Apologies for the very late response, but I've now been able to check that MSTS can be enabled to run with my AMD graphics card.
Using ...
1. Windows 10 64bit v1809, updated to July 2019
2. AMD Radeon HD 7850 graphics card
3. AMD Drivers v19.7.2 (shown as 2620.13001.16003 in Device Manager) dated 11/7/2019
4. Updated version of AMD_BUG_FIX (from your link)
... and following the instructions supplied with 4., MSTS will display correctly
The correct aspect ratio may be applied using AMD Settings, from the Start Menu (set GPU scaling ON)
It should be noted that the earliest AMD graphics cards to which this may be applied is HD 7700.
Thanks, again, for your information
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS not opening on Win 10
Hi All,
The instructions with the current version of MSTS_AMD_BUGFIX do not apply to Windows 7. Although the instructions only specify Win8/8.1/10, I considered it worth emphasising!
The same version may be used under Win 7, but because the AMD installer works differently, the instructions supplied with the previous version of MSTS_AMD_BUGFIX should be followed - these are :
1. Locate file atiumdag.dll - for 64-bit, it's in the C:/Windows/SysWOW64 folder, otherwise it's in the C:/Windows/System32 folder.
2. Copy this file into the MSTS root folder (by default, is Train Simulator).
3. Copy MSTS_AMD_BUGFIX.exe into the MSTS root folder.
4. Run MSTS_AMD_BUGFIX to patch atiumdag.dll - a backup of the original is taken.
NOTE : This procedure can't be used in Win 10 because atiumdag.dll is not in the specified folders! (May also apply to Win 8/8.1).
The version of MSTS_AMD_BUGFIX I've used may be downloaded here : http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/tslib.php? ... d=14080134
Cheers,
Ged
