Save Disabled
I have one route which steadfastly refuses to allow me to substitute one locomotive for another. I can place a loco on the adjacent track but then I get a message saying "Save Disabled" when I try to save the changes.

Re: Save Disabled
Route or scenario? If you want to replace a loco surely you are editing a scenario - if so, are one or more of the files making up the scenario read only?.legend49 wrote:I have one route which steadfastly refuses to allow me to substitute one locomotive for another. ...and is this a Career Scenario?
Re: Save Disabled
A Career Scenario? That would explain a lot; thanks.

Re: Save Disabled
If you want to edit a Career Scenario, clone it in RW Tools to a Standard Scenario first. Then you can edit it in RW tools or the TS cenario editor.legend49 wrote:A Career Scenario? That would explain a lot; thanks.

Re: Save Disabled
You can change locos in Career Scenarios with RW Tools without converting them to Stanard, as long as you're replacing one loco with another of the same type (diesel for diesel, steam for steam) and of similar performance. How variable "similar" is yet to be determined though. Which scenario is it and what do you want to swap, with what?

Re: Save Disabled
A friend tried to replace a Black 5 for a Jubilee in a Career Scenario and it crashed on himgptech wrote:You can change locos in Career Scenarios with RW Tools without converting them to Stanard, as long as you're replacing one loco with another of the same type (diesel for diesel, steam for steam) and of similar performance. He cloned the scenario with RW Tools and changed the loco without a problem

Re: Save Disabled
Different performancd? How did he do the abortive swap? Did he just give up after the single faiure?--there are many reasons why a seemingly simple swap would cause a crash.
Tell me the scenario in question and I'll have a bash.

Re: Save Disabled
See if you can find out Peter, it would be an interesting and infomative experiment, particularly if we can find a method that's shown to be reliable.

Re: Save Disabled
I asked him and he did the loco swap in the Game by moving the default loco to the side then placing the new loco in place and then remove the original loco.
But when he pressed Play the Scenario started with the Default loco.

Re: Save Disabled
You also have to move the "instructions" that appear to come out of the chimney across from the old to the new loco! And remove the old one, else it may be in the way of some AI749006 wrote:I asked him and he did the loco swap in the Game by moving the default loco to the side then placing the new loco in place and then remove the original loco.

Having pressed Play, one needs to go immediately into the menu ans press Restart - to reset the signals

Originally you wrote it crashed! If it started with the original loco still inn place then no amount of editing, moving instructions about will make it work---or at least not with the method he was using, as the edit just wasn't being saved.
That's broadly along the lines of the original issue though, we know there can be issues with editing Career scenarios in the game--usually the inability of being able to load Tracks.bin after the edit which can be worked round by a subsequent edit: adding an item of rolling stock and deleting it, or moving a static rail vehicle work for me.
Which route is it?...we've all missed the obvious of the possibility of the route being 'locked'---in the world editor, if the wee padlock next to the big orange play button/arrow in the bottom right of the screen looks like:legend49 wrote:I can place a loco on the adjacent track but then I get a message saying "Save Disabled" when I try to save the changes.

you may not be able to save scenario edits.
If that's the case, click on that padlock so that it changes to:
and try the edit again.

Re: Save Disabled
Sorry but I was getting the info second hand for a chap who is in his 70s.
I'm not really able to add any more info.
In the end Cloning the Career Scenario enabled him to run the Jubilee vice a Black 5 and he was happy.
