AP Stock - no Passengers

Post by 749006 »

Is there a reason why AP Stock does not have Passengers.
It might have been mentioned when the stock, Mk2 Coaches & Thumper units, was released but I cannot remember :-?

They just look strange when you see or run a Passenger train without Passengers
Ok for parking in Sdgs as they are empty.

Generally no passenger view either ! Although you can add your own. I did that for the 321, as I like to have a look from inside the carriage, especially when stopped in stations. I can understand the logic though, when moving you should ideally be in the cab or just outside it , definitely not in the passenger compartment.

One of the things I really like about TSW is the ability to sit as No2 driver or as any of the passengers and watch the world (Scenery) go by.

In TS20xx when I set up a scenario with the "correct" stock, many other "makes" don't have passenger view, my heart sinks as I start the scenario and find out, no passenger view.
I will never tire of just sitting there and letting the world go by.. I wish there was a way, as in TSW, to sit and be driven in TS instead of Helicopter view only. As for adding passenger view and passengers I know it can be done, have no idea how it is done.

MSTS used to have a mode (introductory train rise) where you could sit in the carriage and the AI would drive, it was quite interesting especially with the erratic AI which would start accelerating toward a red signal then stop a few yards past it! For me it is one of the boons of TSW being able to wait for a train then climb aboard and sit as a passenger. It would be great to be able to do it is TS2019, I doubt it is something we will see implemented now.

I would prefer passengers in the carriages rather than passenger-less carriages, it does seem a little odd seeing empty train pull in stations!

Thomson have implemented it in one of their Swiss routes, can't remember which one as I never use it.

It has even been given a name "Passenger Mode" - in the Albula Bahn. A 15 min scenario over the most impressive part of the route.

In the Bernina Bahn there are also two Passenger Mode scenarios.

I'm not too bothered if I cannot sit inside the stock whilst the train is moving but it is nice to see some Virtual Passengers using the trains instead of ECS all the time

How did you add the Passengers to the 321?

The 321 is the fifth item down https://greatbritishrailwo.wixsite.com/gbrw/patches

There are also passenger views and patches for several others : 170, 313, 314, 380 , 456 etc.

It is important to note that these are not "passenger views" in the accepted DTG stock sense. What they do is add a reference to a "PassCamera" .bin file to the inside of one of your carriage .bin files ( the TSOL in the case of the 321) . As long as the coach internals are reasonably detailed ( as they are in most AP stock ) this is very acceptable and has the advantage that you can copy and paste the reference to this feature into other liveries and reskins that are not covered in the downloaded patch. The PassCamera also lets you move about more more than a traditional "passenger view". As I said, I like to look out of the open doors when the train is stationary at a platform.
I do fully understand why some may not see the need for a passenger view, but I like them :D .

Another great benefit of a passenger view in a number of DMUs/EMUs is that traction/compressor sounds are often much better audible in the passenger compartment than in the cab. AP seems to have taken this insight to heart by adding a high-quality passenger view to the AP 319 Vol 1 pack and listening to the sounds when accelerating is just a great pleasure (at least to me, others may disagree, but I know that the 319 is also one of AP's favourites in terms of sound).

The "passenger view" for the 321 available on the GB Railworks website is just excellent in that, thanks to the approach used to create these, the (again great) 321 traction motor and compressor sounds can be fully enjoyed while sitting in the passenger compartment. It is always tempting to briefly switch to the passenger view in the 321 when driving conditions allow, sometimes even at the expense of an AWS emergency brake! So thank you very much for that - to me at least this hugely adds to what is already a great pack.

So this is just a view inside an empty train but still no Passengers when views from outside?

I just did a great GEML run with the 321 including "passenger view" (the included frosty morning scenario to Colchester Town, now looking just terrific with the Sky & Weather EP) and was actually surprised to note the opposite - the "passenger view" is indeed empty, but passengers were visible from the outside.

He's not asking for a passenger view, he's asking if it's possible for passengers to be made visible inside the AP Mk2s. At the moment they all appear as ECS.

Correct ! See second post in this thread, where I commented "Generally no passenger view either !" . My point was that, if a designer is not bothered about passengers, they are probably not bothered about a passenger view either. This is a reasonable position to adopt , especially if they wish to remove what may be considered "unnecessary" complexity from already highly scripted stock to say help frame rates.
If you do want to add passengers, you would have to find some child object/objects for passengers that fit the stock concerned and reference them in the .bin files. The RSC Class 321Pack02, for example, does have passengers, but I doubt whether they could be made to fit the AP variant. Best bet would be individual passenger child objects, but adding them would be tedious.
Personally, the lack of passenger figures inside a carriage (they are rarely realistic), bothers me less than the lack of a passenger view, but we are all different of course! :D

I agree, I also am not to bothered about passengers being seen from the passenger view, indeed most are quiet scary anyway, see seperate post a while back and as for the TSW 101 passengers very scary.
Personally I just want passenger view
Ive tried the Ride in the Thompson game its acutally a scenario and good too. I just want it as an option to F2 or F3 especially in follow me mode.
