As the installation process starts and only falls over when (presumably) accessing the game folders, give it another whirl but this time install to a dummy folder on your desktop. What you call it makes no odds, the idea is to try and get the contents of the pack out of the installer to somewhere you can copy them from.

I've tried many ways, with MS repair tools and step by step processes to get it to work without success, deleted Temp/App/Data etc. Most of the advice ends up being, if all above fails, a clean install of windows is required. Don't want to do that as everything else is working great with no problems at all.

Hi Mark.
A while back I had similar problems with my laptop not updating Win10. There exists a Win10 update helper that you may want to try. See this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... /windows10
I am no expert on this but with the tool I was finally able to get the laptop install updates w/o problems. Perhaps Gary (gptech) can give you some more advice on how to use this tool. Your installer problems perhaps have something to do with your old, not updated since April 2017, Win10 version.

Have you have tried running the inbuilt Update Troubleshooter in Windows 10. Go into Settings then Update and Security then highlight Troubleshoot and select Windows Update.

This looks like a typical Windows issue and it could be easy or hard to fix,
I would start with the windows diagnostic tools

1. sfc /scannow
2. chkdsk /f/x
3. dxdiag

Think about a Windows Repair which keeps your files and update up to latest version. If not fixed a clean install may be needed. See below.

Also try
Install DLC in SAFE mode
Install DLC in Clean Boot mode

I would be repairing windows using one of the methods described above.

Did all the above Peter, no joy. I decided to remove AVG because that is the only thing that has been updated, unlike Windows! I had to use a AVG removal tool and that ended up deleting my networking and audio software! So decided to go the whole hog and format my SSD, reinstall Win7 and all drivers. AP installers all work once again. Not risking AVG or Win 10 this time around!
Thanks for all the help and suggestions folks, much appreciated.

I have had the same problem with the Armstrong installation even on a new machine, the only way that I have found to resolve this issue is to run a programme called CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com (it is free) run the reg clean, always backup first. this does appear tho solve the problem for a while. The next time the error occurs just run it again.

Which can be read as "it doesn't really completely fix things". Like all such (reputable) tools, CCleaner provides an immediate fix, but doesn't tell you why the *fault* occurred, or how to prevent it happening again.

Why?
If you're going to stay clear of the common elements surely you also wouldn't run any AP installer?
markjudith wrote:my system won't update windows, but this hasn't affected anything before, its been trying to get the same update package since April! Fails everyday
Which indicates a corrupt installation anyway; something that could have been caused by a multitude of things, probably/possibly not related to TS or AVG or the AP packs or Win 10.
