Help For RW Decal

Post by ryan51 »

Following Google Earth 6.1 and earlier being retired I'm looking for coders to help get RW Decal working with the newer versions of Google Earth so that those including myself who use it can continue to do so. The code is freely available here https://github.com/simdeveloper/RWDecal and the program must remain free also.

I have had a quick look at this and I don't think it is possible. Google no longer provides an API for the desktop Google Earth client, the program would have to be re-written to use the Google Earth Engine API.

I was aware of this already from info I've been given already and as gptech says it's why I'm looking for a coder or coders

Sorry, I misread the question. I had a look thinking that there was maybe a few lines of code to change, not that the entire application needed rewriting.

I havnt used RWD since LMR, would it not be easier to use an early Google Earth ?

This taken for the Home Page

1st February 2012 Google Earth was updated to version 6.2 on 26th January 2012. Unfortuntely this version is NOT compatable with RWDecal.
RWDecal does still work correctly with GoogleEarth 6.1 and earlier. These versions can be downloaded from Google directly but you will need to make sure that automatic updates are disabled on Google Earth to prevent it self updating to the latest version.

Just a thought

What does RW Decal offer that the *supported* system of Google Earth doesn't? in other words, why the great need to fix it?

Assuming you mean the google overlay built into TS20XX its the ability to use ordinance maps from say the 1960's layed in GE to get track layout right which can't be done with the built in overlay and i know decals can be made other ways but RW decal is the easiest way for me and i dare say a fair few others

Not necessarily censored. Do not write RW Decal without the space between - I had some posts referred to the Admins recently because I had omitted the space. It would appear to be a "no-no" word!

OK got it. (No No word) like itreminds me whaen I was a child my mother used to say that was a no no word.

Hadn't realised 6.1 had retired. Does that mean its not just available from Google - or it wont work with Google Earth website ?
Because there are plenty of websites offering it for download still.

It's beginning to seem my hunt for someone to look at the code and fix it may be getting to the point where its dead in the water
